November 29, 2014 at 22:50 #496920I jest, I jest. Lovely attitude and lovely jumper, has a touch of the Synchronised’s (RIP) about him, could see him running into a place if he does indeed run in the Gold Cup. I bloody hope so anyway!
November 30, 2014 at 15:49 #496999Houblon impressed me. That was some performance from him. I never expected he could run like that with such a burden to carry.
Rocky disappointed and I’m still trying to figure out what was wrong with him. I don’t think it is linked to the ground as he has got some interesting performances on soft going (winner of the Reynoldstown 2013 with Houblon 2nd).December 4, 2014 at 21:51 #497402Rocky disappointed and I’m still trying to figure out what was wrong with him. I did a bit more digging regarding Rocky Creek after his poor run and came up with the following.
Paul Nicholls considered that the horse was still a bit big and weak last year and felt there was a reason why he was not finishing his races off well.
Rocky Creek had a wind operation during the summer and was reported to be a stronger and better horse this season by his trainer, who assured readers he’d win races this season.
After the race at Down Royal Paul Nicholls believed that the horse had already showed him that he was better than last year and felt he could get the horse fitter still, but that he was going into the Hennessey with a great chance and would have the Grand National as his main target this season.
It was as a Grand National runner that I put Rocky Creek into my Ten To Follow but I expected a lot better than the lifeless performance he put up in the Hennessey and it has to be a big concern when a horse is out of it after, effectively, two fences.
Nicholls is as mystified as anyone but said the following on his website:-
"Rocky Creek had an off day in the Hennessy. I was expecting a big run but he never seemed to be going at any stage. I don’t know what to make of it but suspect he needs better ground."
An off day? I had a pretty off day myself after that!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
