No mate, I wasn’t suggesting she would have taken the wrong course regardless I was just pointing out a couple of things, namely;
1. The rear jocks – whoever they would have been – had enough forewarning as to which way to go.
2. For those supporting Garde Champetre, he was well beaten at the time and it’s unlikely he’d have finished ahead of Wedger Pardy (or most of the others) if they hadn’t ran out.

Agreed but I feel I’ve answered points raised regarding that race before, I quote….
"the firm ground woudn’t have suited GC in November, the horse goes much better for Nina than he does for JT, Nina’s a real master(ess) at cutting corners, watch the way she switches her horse from inside to outside to gain ground at almost every turn. She’d have had Garde much closer in that race than JT had him. Enda is qouted as saying "She’s been the making of the horse (GC after he came from JohnJo) he runs and jumps for her"
March 8, 2012 at 11:22 #395333William Hill offering 4/1 on Scotsirish this morning (not NRNB) for the Cross Cuntry. Topped up on the 7/2 I got a few weeks back. One of their price-boost offers running up to the festival.
March 8, 2012 at 12:54 #395347Although I’m leaning heavily towards the Enda Bolger pair right now, nothing is set in stone as I’m worried about the ground for both, for some reason The Cross Country course isn’t being watered

Bottom line for me has to be the jockey, it’s risky backing any runner until riding arrangements are known, not to mention missing out on 4th place not available on AP.
A good horse with the wrong jockey is always going to struggle to beat an OK horse with the right jockey, it’s not just finding the correct way round, it’s about finding the shortest way round and with the jumps/obstacles so close together it’s also about presenting a horse in the right place to jump the following fence not just the one being immediately jumped.
Apart from Nina and JT, added to Davy Russell, Katie Walsh, Andrew Lynch and Paul Carberry I’d have my reservations…. if I don’t fancy one ridden by one of those I probably won’t have a bet in the race
March 9, 2012 at 19:23 #395584looks like Arabella Boy is out, he’s declared at Naas on Sunday
March 12, 2012 at 17:40 #396010SORTED!!!
At the weights GARDE CHAMPETRE has the beating of the three horses that are shorter in the betting. (Explained earlier in this thread just incase anyone quotes the November race)
Against this is his age which in most disciplines would rule him out but this is Cross Country where normal rules don’t applyWhat swung me was the participation of Arabella Boy in The Leincster National yesterday where he ran a blinder to finish second to Paddy Pub
Enda Bolger treats the festival Cross Country as his Gold Cup.
Arabella Boy’s run yesterday would have won this easily off his allotted weight of 10 stone. This surely can’t be disputed.
For Enda not to have run both tomorrow he must be very confident that Garde Champretre has been showing all his usual sparkle at home.
With Nina back on board they’ll be cutting every corner and with the old boy having his favourite jockey on board it seems impossible to visualise him being out of the frame.March 13, 2012 at 16:10 #396236Scotsirish and Garde Chempetre don’t look good.

No watering.
Get rid of the race.Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2012 at 16:12 #396237simon holt had a shocker there, garde champetre got pulled up and didn’t look good for the horse, holt doesn’t even mention it.
March 13, 2012 at 16:16 #396240Yeah unusally poor from Holt there. Didnt notice scotsirish pull up. Think he was half asleep, cant blame him.

Get rid of the race.Given the chronic water shortage and likely summer hosepipe bans, watering racecourses can be viewed as over-indulgent. Mr Mullins should be aware of the going and make decisions in the best interests of his charges’ welfare.
March 13, 2012 at 16:22 #396245They have their own water supplies dont they? Its a **** race anyway regardless of the water situation. Does anybody really think this daft course has enhanced cheltanham?

They have their own water EF.
Scotsirish and Garde Champetre go on a sound surface, you can’t blame their trainers for running them. Even horses who act on the ground can get life ending injuries from it. It was officially good-firm, time 12 seconds faster than previous record suggests there was no "good" in it. So you could say trainers weren’t told. Anyway, racing thoroughbreds around 90 degree corners on firm ground is asking for trouble. If the race is "kept", then it should be abandoned if it gets this firm.
Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2012 at 16:30 #396250Poor commentary indeed. I didn’t see Garde Champetre pull up, but noticed he was missing for two miles before Simon Holt mentioned it.
I hope he’s okay.
March 13, 2012 at 16:35 #396254Scotsirish and Garde Champetre have both needed to be "destroyed".
Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2012 at 16:36 #396256I personally think CH4 were all over the place with their coverage today. Francombe/Walsh cut short when discussing the Supreme runners in the paddock, Noland apparently being 11/2 fav which Francombe took as gospel, Leslie asking Nicholls just before their interview if ROR was his first CH winner and then the poor commentary in the CC. Coupled with all those woeful bookies adverts in the break it was a very poor show indeed. Just as well the horses made up for it!
The Cc Definitely needs to be axes, such a risky course. RIP Scotsirish and GC.

Of course it should be abandoned, as should the National, but it will never happen.
March 14, 2012 at 12:22 #396563The loss of Grand Champetre has devestated both myself and MrsCs
He was one of our favourite horses and, quite honestly, I can’t get my head round making any selections for today.
I might well sit out the rest of the meeting - AuthorPosts
