To echo other comments, well done on the win Triptych. Does this make you the forum’s official Poet in Residence for the remainder of 2023?

Also thanks for your efforts Nathan. It has been an entertaining thread.
February 18, 2023 at 23:59 #1636057Thanks for the Victoria Wood link Ground. She could certainly create zany characters but her pairing up with Julie Walters was magic and Mrs Overall was my favourite. Also the 2 Soups sketch another classic.
Enjoy those bargain books…

I think Chezza kept a good eye on the voting process..and he kept us all entertained throughout the competition..but I’m not giving him any more praise as he’s busy tidying up the Lounge after the party and hovering up all the remaining Hob Nobs.
Also thanks to Marlingford but I think I’ll pass on the resident poet job I need a holiday.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 19, 2023 at 02:00 #1636063Well done all who got to the final. Jac your poem was inventive,
funny, had rhythym, told a great story and deserved to waltz away with the
Poem of The Year. Big Congrats
February 19, 2023 at 02:24 #1636064I do think there’s a lot more yardage in here for analyzing exactly what went wrong for several poets.
Corky and Marlingford seem to have been deserted in the final by all and sundry and Ben who did so well in the heats seems to have one solitary vote which I suspect was his own. There are definitely more questions than answers in this artistic conundrum, and why English justice smiled unkindly on the appetizing gobjob is another unsettling mystery.
Simon Brett would not leave a leaf unturned to get to the bottom of this. There is no disputing the clear winner Jac/Triptych/Tippi but still the question begs imploringly of whether the threesome should have won by a far bigger margin ?February 19, 2023 at 03:12 #1636067Nathan’s defence states…
“mine were that there was no prize money involved so rules were relaxed”
I do not challenge the Poster of the year lightly but his professional reputation is on the line here.
Judge…”You are a brother of the faith albeit a simple yokel – gives us in plain terms your opinion of what went on here. ”
Yokel … ” Well m’lud me gracious learned Sir of highest repute, it seems to a simple brain like mine, and forgive me there’s a few things I don’t know, but yes lost in the country brain that I possess I sees it quite clearly, that the rules were relaxed for the sake of ten fookin poonds !
February 19, 2023 at 10:12 #1636101I thought the biggest mystery was how I didn’t make it past Chezza in the playoff

February 19, 2023 at 10:21 #1636106I’m just glad I’m not CAS ….. Even the aliens didn’t vote for CAS , I’m taking my one vote like Lord Sutch did , I’ll be back again next year fellow mad bastards
February 19, 2023 at 12:37 #1636122Three admirably did not vote for themselves. If we deduct the seven finalists that means the compo attracted 8 people to vote – strangers.
Turnout was .00014 % of the registered members so roughly 1 out of 10,000 and a midget were inspired enough to give their right or left index finger some exercise.
In the initial voting to make the final there were 15 voters so eight strangers or unknown voters. The same as the final. This seems odd to me, and the conclusion one can reasonably draw is that possibly the final attracted no new voters.
I very much doubt if a single soul had the patience to laboriously trawl through 16 pages or 250 posts to compare the poets’ entries.I certainly did not.Despite these conclusions Gnats has to be applauded for his efforts, and people can draw their own conclusions from the above.
I annoyingly felt I had to vote for gamble in the play off to get an even playing field. There was more reason to vote for him in the final as we had a runaway and my vote added to the overall entertainment.

Truth be told, Chezza was more than a bit surprised himself.
Given the awful Hughesey is such a sickening “nice guy,” it’s probably yet more depressing supporting evidence that we may well live in a Godless universe.

All known logs will be carbonated and if the restless spirits of Tooting and Jim JTS are still stretching their restless legs at the continued existence of the wooden one – they will finally sleep the good sleep deep in a log less, Godless, earth.
February 19, 2023 at 14:00 #1636141I didn’t knew you believe in reincarnation, Chezza. I thought you believed in
Gamble, your last post was very profound.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.February 19, 2023 at 14:25 #1636146Profound and Gamble …. In the same sentence …. 2023 sure is getting strange

I’m 100% certain that I made the last vote in that playoff since I clicked in the dying seconds. The score was IanDavies 6 Nathan 5 before I made the vote. It wasn’t an easy decision.
Here are my reasons why…
1) I was bitter and twisted after turning to the dark side (I did pre-warn about this 5 days earlier)
2) IanDavies described my poem as ‘a true masterpiece’. That is one helluva a compliment!
3) Being torn between two of the most popular members of the forum was difficult. My heart was calling to pick Nathan. My brain was yelling to pick IanDavies. My gut was burbling hard to make a calculated guess in the hope that, if I pick Darth Chezza to triumph, this farcical squabble to deny him won’t roll over into next year’s contest.
No biscuits were eaten or harmed at the time I posted this.
