Just thought I’d throw this in as the subject of charger availability has come
up. My son in London (Putney) is a pilot with British Airways. They have been
offered some deal whereby they can rent an electric car, starting from about
£350 a month which includes insurance, batteries and tyres. This obviously
jumps quite a bit depending on the model you go for. It seems that you can
ask the council, fill in a form, to put a charging point into a lampost in
your street near to where you live. It seems that its not difficult to do
and my boy sent a pic of one on a lampost. It’s hardly noticeable, just like
a black plug socket. Apparently they can fit them in jig time. I can see this
gathering momentum as people change to electric. He’s filled in the form and
sent it off, although he’s not had word back yet yet. I’m not sure how many
councils are offering this, but it would speed up the sale of electric cars
if it is that accessible. There’s a fair sized car park in Dunoon down at the pier with 3 charging stations.
I think there are cables at both sides so 6 cars could charge up, but I’ve only seen
the ocassional car there. I suppose once things get back to normal, or normalish,
they will be more in use. I went to the Festival on Gold Cup day last year (yes, I know
)
and picked up my my new car when back up the road. It’s mostly lay here for the year.
It went in for it’s 1st service last month and had only done 700 miles.Seems a bloody
waste
May 19, 2021 at 09:34 #1541507I had to look up jig time Big G – it comes from the scottish jig (dance) which is triple time.
So jig time means in a very quick time.Interesting about Putney lamp posts and Westminster Council had free charging points ( not sure if they still do) to encourage electric.. I suppose its a matter of time but phasing out gas boilers in 2025 is overly ambitious to me, and I cannot see the investment forthcoming needed to do it.
May 19, 2021 at 15:35 #1541534Yes I thought after I threw that one in that there might be a few scratching their head.
It’s a commonly used phrase in central Scotland anyway. I probably had even more scrambling
for google when I ended off a post, to a fellow Scot, “lang may yer lum reek”. I’ll leave you
to follow that one up too Gamble

Long may your chimney smoke – i.e. a long life 🐑👍
