I find him extremely annoying to watch on TV, but I have an off button which I use after the race is over and any time he is interviewed. I particularly despise his “Flying dismounts”, they are totally unprofessional and all about him and nothing about the horses, one day he will be kicked in the head, amazed it hasn’t happened all ready.

My favourite flat jockey has to be Paul Hanagan, you can have all the Frankies in the world but Paul Hanagan is the jockey I would want on board my horse if I was lucky enough to own one.

That’s the man on my profile pic on board Mukhadram. I am a big fan and I’m a fan of the Dubai racing carnival so I get to see him quite often. I’ll only ever back him if I think the horse is good enough though.

Go Paul :yahoo: No flying dismounts just a nice polite salute to the crowd and a rub down the neck for his horse, such a nice man and as Young Fellla says he’s developed a wicked sense of timing that will hopefully see him moving up the top jockey table next season.

I can put up with the antics of Dettori. Even though he seems ice cool on the racetrack, I can see him been as nervous as hell before a big race such as the Arc, with the pressure almost getting to him. So when he wins, I think the relief and joy shows a sort of overboard reaction in the man, to which some might find a bit childish. I think its fairly well known that when things don’t go his way, then he can go all sulky chops.

With Ryan Moore, I start to feel awkward as soon as Emma starts approaching him after the race ready to stick a mic in front of his face. The awkwardness lasts until she lets him go.

I have always like Paul Hanagan as a jockey but a story I heard a few years ago, if true, was slightly worrying. I will not repeat on here

Have to say it was a great ride in the Arc but he was helped massively by Treve’s pacemaker not going fast enough early on which meant Treve herself not settling well enough to take advantage of her low draw.

By all accounts Jarnet was quite upset after the race and even went as far as blaming the ground (which the other connections didn’t) for her defeat. The one person who came out with even more kudos (not that she needed any more) was Criquette Head-Maarek, a classy lady in victory but even moreso in defeat, as she refused to make any excuses and congratulated the winning connections for their horse being a worthy winner on the day.

With regards to Dettori’s flying dismounts, I am surprised that there hasn’t been any incidents with horses being spooked and lashing out (especially given the fact that there are usually many people/connections milling around in the winners enclosure). I also worry that with his advancing years, he is much more likely to end up blowing out a knee or ankle on landing if he continues on for very much longer.

I find most Italian’s tend to have a rather exuberant and outgoing personality by nature and whilst being a little ott at times, I can understand his joy with his renaissance and being back in the big time and the fact that his children are now of an age where they can experience/savour it with him first hand and not have to relive his glory days via tape/newspaper/DVD. I think his nature is also highlighted much more by the fact that most of his riding contemporaries seem to have either had a personality bypass or just skipped the queue when it was being handed out.

I seriously don’t know why anyone would bother sticking a microphone anywhere near the same area code as Ryan Moore for a comment, I understand that he really couldn’t give a monkeys and would probably much prefer having his teeth pulled than doing any media but jees would it kill you to string more than a sentence together and at least look like you want to engage with the racing public in some parteven if it is only for a minute or two. I know he is capable of it as he is supposed to be one of the best on giving detailed feedback to connections about how their horse has run after a race.

Finally, the one thing that I hate about the sycophantic media making ass kissing comments over a good ride is the fact that when we all see an equally bad ride, they glibly gloss over it by coming up with evey single excuses known to man (and woman and child of all ages) to exonerate the jockey from any blame on the ride that they have just given……..a little parity would be a refreshing change of pace but alas highly unlikely.

Wow – The Tatling comes in with a Post of the Year contender straight away.

The Dettori love-in is rather grating. Dettori’s final years at Godolphin highlighted the weaknesses in his character. When the operation hit a trough and was lacking in star horses, Dettori’s riding standards declined, his love of the sport shrivelled and his professionalism went out of the window. For such a brattish individual to be hailed as a hero must really grind on the journeyman jockeys who toil away for thirty years without grumbling.

Dettori’s Arc ride was fantastic without doubt and he has been riding superbly all season. It’s just a shame he couldn’t maintain these high standards when the chips were down.

Don’t know about post of the year… But it depends who you are…I thought for last years ‘The Grey Gatsby’ post would have taken a bit of beating…. I suppose being the one and only horse from there that the author ever highlighted adds to that…

Not like Frankie to be caught napping . Not one of his finest rides of the season .
The ground probably played a part too , no doubt .

Shocking ride and kid gloves from CH4 boys. Gosden’s warning that the horse would not be given a hard race is no excuse for such a complacent display. He should have been out of there no later than the 3f marker.Foundation will have taken more out of himself in his last piece of work

Well said steeplechasing, couldn`t agree more. Years ago if a kid had ridden like that in a boys race,he would never have been given another ride. I know things have changed, but the praise Dettori heaps on himself and the media and Channel 4 encourage him is sickening. Must say, made my day though, lol.

If horses aren’t to be given “hard races” in Group 1′ s things are getting a bit out of hand aren’t they?

As it was public knowledge before the off that it wouldn’t be having a hard race ( and as it was a feature Group 1 ) the stewards should have hauled Gosden in before the race and told him they were acting on a rumour it was a possible non-trier and were watching it “very closely”.

Wouldn’t have been stuck behind a wall of horses then I should imagine – if necessary I’m sure Frankie would have done a Peslier/Atzeni and got out with litte fear of the consequences.

To be fair gaps usually appear in races like that on ground like that. Frankie must have been sitting thinking ‘when?’. And when Gosden said it wouldn’t be given a hard race I don’t think he meant for one minute it ‘wasn’t off’ just that they wouldn’t be throwing the kitchen sink at it.
However, every horse is supposed to be ridden to obtain best possible placing in every race so it is the sort of comment that should be attracting the attention of the stewards.

Corm, how could he risk a ‘when’?

They were crawling relative to what he had expected tactics-wise. He’s entitled to sit for 3 or 4 furlongs and see if things get better, but surely he must have a cut-off point in his head at which he has to act to give the horse every chance?

Had that been a French jock, he’d have been crucified by all and sundry; Twitter would have burst. It was a seriously ill-judged ride from a man who perhaps thought that he was so good, he simply could not make a mistake, and that some unseen stroke of genius would save him.

Gosden’s public stoicism is admirable, but his jockey got a horse stuffed who, for all we know, could have remained unbeaten throughout his career. I wonder what was said afterwards?

Huge Group 1 race, trainer states hot favourite won’t be given a hard race, jockey rides like Stevie Wonder on Ketamine. I seriously doubt anything untoward but it looks positively awful doesn’t it?

‘That’s racing’? Only in England… :negative:

I don’t think it was his greatest ride, but to be fair he has made high profile mistakes in the past, and will no doubt make them again. He is only human after all. I have to admit I am a Dettori fan. On the front end, setting his own fractions, he has few rivals, and can be poetry in motion at times. I believe he remains the most naturally gifted rider we have in this country.

I think the Ballydoyle trio, whether by design or accident, managed to get Frankie into a position from which he would always need a bit of luck, and in the prevailing ground conditions it was always going to be difficult to make up the lost ground. I guess Frankie could have cut the horse in two to finish a few lengths closer but then would connections have a horse to go to war with next year?

It was also good to see Peter Chapel-Hyam, who provided Frankie with his first Derby winner, back in the big time. He has had some lean years since 2007, lets up if Marcel is his next classic winner he can re-establish himself among the elite.

Problem being he decided to follow his main market danger (Deauville) and thought when that horse he kicked on about 2F out he would following him through and pounce 1F out and win cosy……….best laid plans and all that.

Sadly the Ballydoyle pacemaker set of fast and then slowed it down meaning he didn’t drop away 2F out and Deauville (looks like he needs 12F already) couldn’t even quicken past said pacemaker which left Dettori all dressed up with nowhere to go.

Hindsight is a great thing but Dettori is experienced enough to see that problem coming at halfway and should have been flexible enough to change tactics but with the season he has had, he probably thought they would part like the red sea just in the nick of time for him to slip through and take the plaudits accordingly.

Nobody should be even remotely surprised that he didn’t get any flack for this ride as bad rides in general rarely get even half the coverage that a corresponding good ride gets.

Last week on the morning line they asked Dettori if he was riding in a big race and found trouble in running what would he do.

    A)Barge his way out or
    B)Sit and suffer

Frankie said blah, blah, group 1, barge out 99 out of 100 times, guess this was the one time
