That horse saved the national and I still well up when I see that 73 finish.
I must add that Peter O’Sullivan needs a mention. His voice is a part of that special day.
You can’t see another Peter or Rummy coming along again and we were so privileged they wrote history together that day.
Never ever forgotten, so proud to hear and see them still on youtube.Good to hear. You always wonder if something’s up if somebody hasn’t posted for a while especially in today’s world.
Hope to see him on here again. Hopefully his love of the jumps will tempt him out of “retirement” once the season is up and running again

I can’t remember when I joined here, but I’ve never seen that post, so
some time after. I’m well aware of Joe’s writing, having read a good
few of his books, but that was a wonderful piece, poignant, funny and
full of the soul of proper National Hunt. I hope Joe returns soon, this
forum would be all the better for it THE FINAL POST
I am bowed down for eight long years in a state of abject praise and wonderment at Joe the magnificent for his endearingly readable, smackingly truth telling opus, on Rummy’s last post.
Few horses transform and elevate lives enough for our oft humdrum existences filled with trials and tribulations that often defeat, for us to be suddenly transported high above the firmament to share the most venerable platform with God and the holiness of saints and to feel the warmth of grace fill us completely.
That happened in 1977, and I the miserable and sinning wretch gamble, was sure enough up there high above the clouds, dancing with multitudes, and catching the sight of at least one saint flying past in tears.
This sort of seismic event happens probably once or twice in a lifetime, so let us celebrate and rejoice in it once again, and in the company of our very own Joe – who looks pretty damn fine in his halo 🤠
