Mistake aside, that was his probably his most accured jumping display under Rules – he wasn’t that great over fences prior to his being sent hunting, and mistakes certainly abounded in the Foxhunters.
I wasn’t entirely convinced of his ability to stay 3m under Rules before the race on the known evidence, though, and still think Back Nine – for whom a stiff 3m under Rules holds no terrors – would have stayed on the stouter.
