Without any hesitation, i am nominating the talented, slightly enigmatic
but one of the unluckiest losers of Group 1″s i have ever seen YOUMZAIN
as this years winner of the Coronation Cup at Epsom! The ride he was given in last years race stands out head and shoulders as the worst ride
i have seen in a Group1 race since “Greville Starkey”! Currently trading
around the 9/2 mark, its not going to surprise many as an original selection
but it will do for me! One thing about this race is there is no unexposed
3yo to surprise us, i cant see Tartan Bearer running, possibly Frozen fire
would be a danger, but i fear nothing other than the jockey making another
balls up! I always felt Youmzain was a horse who required a bit of cut to show his best as he has since shown, i remember backing Dylan Thomas
to win the 07 King George at 7/1 Ante-post, he went off a hot favourite, but at the 2f pole Youmzain was still swinging and i thought for one minute, we
could be in trouble but Dylan showed his class! I thought then that if Youmzain gets his ground in the Arc he could trouble Dylan, so i backed
Youmzain at 66/1 for the Arc! The rest is History! Call me an Aftertiming
B*****D, but it helps to paint my picture! No other horse deserves a bit of luck like this one! Come on YOUMZAIN!!April 29, 2009 at 17:54 #224325

You’re an aftertiming b*stard.
April 29, 2009 at 18:20 #224327The thing is TATK, those of us that have genuinely been following Youmzain for some time now, actually realise that at 4-1ish fav, he isnt actually a great price. I got 12-1 on him for this last year (put him up on here too, so no aftertiming) and he didnt win. Youmzain is an e/w punters horse and only worth taking decent e/w prices on antepost as he tends to swoop late and is ground dependant. However he’s now well and truly established himself as a consistent e/w punters horse and so the bookies are going to quote him as such.
However, taking 21-5 about a horse who genuinely doesnt like gd-fm so far ahead of a race in early june that could easily come up gd-fm is madness IMO. If it did come up gd-fm and Frozen Fire, for example, lined up (currently 23-2) then he would be a far better bet than Youmzain. If it was gd-fm Youmzain would drift like a barge, and having a favorites price about him would look fairly ridiculous.

As far as Tartan Bearer is concerned why do you think he wont run?
He was 2nd in the Derby over the course and distance. He’s fit and he was your tip for the King George?
His other entry is at Ascot POW over 1m2f 2 weeks later and John Gosden is sending Pipedreamer for that.
He’ll no doubt run in one of them if he has comeout of his last race ok and if it’s the latter and he wins I would imagine you can say goodbye to him running in the King George.
At this momet in time you would have to think Youmzain will go very close at Epsom. The horse was placed or won 11 times on the trot in good company including finishing 2nd to Zarkava.
The only negatives are the course his best form is on galloping tracks. If Frozen Fire runs and steals a march on him he could come unstuck again like he did last year. The other negative is he normally needs a run and it’s a long season and no doubt Mick Channon’s won’t have him overly fit this early.
9/2 is a decent price asit doesn’t look a great race this year, but I like Dar Re Mi of John Gosdens she’s a bit short of top class but she’s a nice filly who I would expect to do well in her ealy races. I doubt if John Gosden will have any big plans for her this year and has nothing to lose by having her 100% spot on for this.
No doubt we will no more come the 4 day decs.
April 29, 2009 at 19:42 #224343Tartan Bearer is very unlikely to run in the Coronation Cup on June 5, because he is running in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, Curragh, on May 24.

Incidentally I backed 7 consecuitive RSA winners all at huge AP prices Spanish Steps. Herring Gull, Border Jet, Different Class, Arkloin and Buona Notte. The best of them was Arkloin who I backed at 14/1 because he was trained by Tom Dreaper and I thought he was Arkle’s brother.(that part is true)
I take it this is the after timing thread

Geez I get so bored with flat racing at this stage way too much guess work.
Only takin the p!ss Gord please go on

Originlly that was to be Conduit’s first race with his main target the King George. I wonder if he will send them both or send Conduit straight to Ascot for the Prince of Wales.

Good to see you back after your break, i see your contribution to my thread is as per usual! any thoughts on the race itself or cant you think
5 minutes ahead of yourself?April 29, 2009 at 22:29 #224379I’ll be backing whatever comes over from the Continent.
It is an idea that came into my head when Saint Estephe won at 20/1, with I think Triptych 2nd, also at 20/1, and it has never gone away.
8 wins out of 22 races since that one. Lean times in the last decade or so though.

Fist, i believe Tartan Bearer is an ideal candidate for the King George, for reasons i have stated, particularly the fact his brother was successful
7 years ago, i think Youmzain should have won the Coronation last year
so i can see connections wanting to redeem themselves for last years
debacle!May 1, 2009 at 01:49 #224707This years Coronation Cup could have a distinctly better than normal look about it.
If Look Here, Conduit and Youmzain do turn up we’ll have a fantastic race on our hands. All three handle Epsom well (as we saw last year).
I’d slightly favour Look Here at the moment. Think Rafe Beckett has this as his main target of the year for Look Here.
More to the point though, is she the dark horse of the year? Everyone seems to be forgetting about her before the season has started!

I did actually think about her HWTH for my ttf. My main concern is that her ideal conditions are a decent clip on good ground at 1m4f, and those are also the same ideal condtions for Youmzain, who IMO is better than her. She is one of those horses who I will only back if she is an outsider in the hope that something else throws in a howler. She is very short in the market for my liking, and I got the distinct impression at lingfield last year that she doesnt like gd-fm which is also a concern if the ground came up that way.
I would generally bet this race (as with the derby) for good ground, but it depends on a) whether the ground comes up good, or b) whether the derby contenders call for the track to be watered as in 2005. The chances are that it will be good but there is always that chance which must be factored into prices taken so on the basis of Youmzain and the ground, I am against her at current prices.

If Youmzain wins the Coronation Cup, not only will I pack up betting, I’ll begin to believe this clown has some idea what he’s talking about.

Hey Reet, surely if Youmzain wins and you start to believe that then it’d be more productive to follow TAPK’s selections?

Thats a bold statement reet, Youmzain is surely the most likely winner on all known form.
I dont think Youmzain is a good price, but he is the best of these, he almost won it last last year, and he beat soldier of fortune next time out under different riding tactics. He was also second in the arc again. What is he up against that you would consider him to be a shock winner?

There"s one thing for sure, i could live up to your name, but could you live up to mine, Smart Ass?
