The Mexico/Sweden game should be pretty tight or would have been under normal circumstances but on the face of it Sweden need a win and that will play into the hands of Mexico who have been very good on the counter attack thus far in the Cup. It’s a question of when Sweden decide to throw caution to the wind and it may not happen until the second half. My free fiver will go on Mexico straight and I’ll have a small play on half time draw full time Mexico aswell

June 27, 2018 at 18:34 #1358723I don’t think many saw that German defeat coming
Costa Rica don’t look convincing going forward whilst Switzerland will be taking nothing for granted. I think they have what it takes to win by 2 clear goals after decent games against both Brazil and Serbia9/5 Switzerland -1 goal £4.00

June 28, 2018 at 09:45 #1358744I know little about football, but have had my obligatory small bet on England @ 18/1. Not a patriotic bet, just perfect sense. Like many, they are a confidence team. Everything will depend on what sort of start they get. Previous years they’ve been far too careful. This time Southgate (in the lead up and vocally) much more positive. If looking at previous tournaments and discounting penalties we don’t have such a bad record. Having a young team is to our advantage, fewer players remember the poor performances of other years and we’ve won Under XX tournaments recently too.
There are a few players I have my doubts about. Sterling’s confidence has been good with Man City this season and therefore netted a lot of goals; in contrast to his England form. Not that he plays badly, everywhere else on the pitch he’s great, just freezes in front of goal. However, the team are coming in to this in good form with a strong defence and got two winnable games to start. If Sterling can get a goal in the first game then his confidence may return. If not, Rashford would be a fine replacement. He’s the opposite to Sterling; no confidence in playing for Man U but bags of it in an England shirt. Little concerning Ali hasn’t been at his best second half of the season, but again there’s a lot of competition for his position – strength in depth.
If we get off to a good start our odds will half. Fairly big IF, but imo England at this stage have a better than 5.25% chance. They have at least as good a chance as Belgium imo (all individuals, not yet a team) and Argentina (two man team). Not as far behind France as markets indicate either (struggled in qualifying and weak up front).
One team I have been impressed with is Spain and have backed them @ 6/1. Ronaldo wrongly got the plaudits, but one was a wrongly given pen’. Spanish defender had his foot planted before Ron’ kicked his leg. Second goal extremely lucky as goalie had a nightmare and let it through. Only proper goal Spain let in a fabulous free-kick. So defencively Spain did better than the score shows and scored three good goals themselves. Bossed most of the game against Portugal. Should beat the other two in the group with ease.
Belgium’s team have seemingly gelled and with their manager realising losing today would give them an advantage/playing their reserves – have put a saver on them @ 7/1.
Value Is EverythingJune 28, 2018 at 13:10 #1358761Probably a good bet Ginge, could end up with a easy enough route through to the semis if they finish 2nd today. Then face off with presumably Spain, who won’t enjoy facing the Belgian potent attack.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!June 28, 2018 at 14:10 #1358772Brilliant reading Gingers thread on how both sides benefit from losing. I think with both through and it being a dead rubber both sides need not exert themselves anyhow. 0-0 is a bigger play than normal and if a draw is on the cards it could be that bookings come into affect on who tops the group or in this case not. 30+ booking points with sky bet is the equivalent of 3 yellow cards, that should not be a problem if the theory is anything to go by. It should be a game played in the middle of the park and the under 12 corners should be easy unless they give them away.
80/1 Eng/Belg 0-0 C/S, under 12 corners, 30+ booking points £1.00
1/1 Eng/Belg 40+ booking points £1.00+0.00

June 28, 2018 at 18:06 #1358797If I had a bet it would be the draw, but with so many changes on both sides – one, both or neither might be trying. So not getting involved.
