Smad Place e/w for me. Did Cross Kennon e/w at 100s a couple of weeks ago (a bet with the heart!).
I was lucky to be on Big Bucks at 16/1 for his 1st WH win. I’m not an odds-on backer so have left him alone the last 2 years.
Agree. Think Smad Place has nice EW claims.
This race is actually suprisingly competitive. Certainly more interesting than either the Champion Hurdle or Champion Chase IMO.

Happy with the 3rd place – got 33s earlier. Turning into a decent day for me.
March 15, 2012 at 15:36 #396973Brilliant Big Bucks but still i think it’s unfair on some horses not to have an intermediate race. 2 miles or 3 miles. The only race not covered at the festival and i think it’s ridiculous

Nice. He’ll make a high class staying chaser next year.
Exceptional performance from the winner. Been easily the most enjoyable day of the festival so far.

Not really. I don’t want to see the Festival diluted anymore. If a 2 mile 5 hurdle had existed, my god would the Championship hurdles races of been dire and boring this year.
March 15, 2012 at 16:02 #396978A superb performance from a lovely horse. Its a pity he couldnt jump fences as he would have been awesome.
It would be nice if connections of him and Quevega could be persuaded to have a crack at each other (a la Buck House and Dawn Run) maybe throwing in the Rock On Ruby and Hurricane Fly – 2m 4f at Aintree would be ideal for all concerned.
Endelessly winning races in soft divisions, whilst admirable for all concerned, doesn’t give the horses the opportunity to show us how good they actually are. They may go and win 5th titles next year and match Golden Milliers record, but will they be deserving of comparisons with him in terms of ability, let alone Arkle et al.
March 15, 2012 at 16:04 #396979Oh, and I wish Mellish and Hislop on RUK would refrain from using this new buzz term of theirs "deep field" or "deep race" to suggest a race has more strength in depth this year. The prefix "Team" before a stable or trainers name is infuriating enough without this nonsense!
March 15, 2012 at 16:31 #396982Brilliant! What a horse! Fantastic rides by both Walsh and Lynch. The way Ruby wanted to be with another runner coming in to the last (idling worries). Only for Andrew to switch his mount the other way. Magnificent! Haven’t enjoyed a race so much in ages.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2012 at 16:58 #396991Brilliant Big Bucks but still i think it’s unfair on some horses not to have an intermediate race. 2 miles or 3 miles. The only race not covered at the festival and i think it’s ridiculous
Why not have one race at 2m, one 2m1f, one 2m2f, one 2m3f, one 2m4f, one 2m5f, one 2m6f, one 2m7f, one 3m, one 3m1f, one 3m2f, one 3m3f, one 3m4f, one 3m5f, one 3m6f, one 3m7f and one at 4m? May be then everyone could have a winner at the Cheltenham "Festival".
There aren’t enough good horses around to have three races. Imagine it… Even with two races we have an
odds on
2 miler (Hurricane Fly) and odds on 3 miler (Big Buck’s). There’d be some horses going up in trip to avoid Hurricane Fly. Probably including what turned out to be the
first two
this year! Rock On Ruby and Overturn are thought of as stayers at 2 miles. And some down in trip avoiding Big Bucks. Pprobably including Oscar, Thousand and Smad. May be a 2m4f race would look good in that respect, at a
terrible
cost to the two (by then) uninteresting established races. We’d just get two
LONG odds on
favs (and that’s no exaggeration) in
totally uncompetitive
events.
The reason Cheltenham is so fantastic is Top Class
COMPETITIVE
racing. Don’t water it down any more!
And you call it "ridiculous
" not to have a mid distance race there Mark.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2012 at 17:19 #396995I’ve never beeb BBs biggest fan, as 3-mile hurdling is the poor realtion of NH racing, but I thought he was superb today.
On a line through Voler la Vedette, Quevega would be a serious challeneger, tho I think BB had a fair bit in the tank.
A showdown at Punchestown? Make it happen someone.March 15, 2012 at 17:37 #397001I’ve never beeb BBs biggest fan, as 3-mile hurdling is the poor realtion of NH racing, but I thought he was superb today.

A showdown at Punchestown? Make it happen someone.Be fair, Voler has progressed at 3m this season and again today. Quevega is nowhere near as good as Big Buck’s. That’s why Mullins doesn’t "make it happen" when the opportunity arises.
Now if we got rid of the mares (Quevega benifit) race…
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2012 at 17:44 #397003That was a very good performance again from Big Bucks.
He is such a classy horse, and just grinds out victories. 16 consecutive wins is just a tremendous effort, and is a brilliant record.
Have to say what a good race the mare, Voler La Vedette ran, she produced a really good effort.
Well done to Big Bucks, connections, and everyone involved with the horse.
March 15, 2012 at 18:21 #397017Considering the yard is somewhat under a cloud this week, BB’s class got him through that race. It all bodes well (or better than before) for K-Star tomorrow. I am going to be in floods if the old boy gets up. Here’s hoping for a fairytale.
March 15, 2012 at 18:44 #397024I am a bit of a tradionalist, but dont necessarily see how a 2m 4f "intermediate" G1 hdl would be anymore of a dilution to the hurdling division than the Ryanair has been over fences. It so happens we are in a year when the world hdl and champion both had odds on favs. However that will not always be the case.
March 15, 2012 at 19:04 #397036Pure Class
March 15, 2012 at 19:21 #397039Interesting ( but not surprising ) to hear the girl who rides out Big Buck’s saying that no matter which of the other horses he works with at Ditcheat – be it Kauto Star or whoever – he can go any pace they care to set and then he’ll look over at them as if to say, is that all you’ve got.
Big Buck’s is all class.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
March 15, 2012 at 19:49 #397045Big Buck’s is going to get bored at this rate Maybe they should try the French Champion Hurdle? Or the World Series Hurdle? The Iroqouis "Steeplechase"? All of which have bigger purses than most of the races goes in every year.
