As a massive Oscar Whisky fan I just cannot have him winning over 3 miles at the top table, yes he was impressive in winning over 2 1/2 miles but 3m around Cheltenham is a whole new ball game. I do however fully understand why they are going for it
January 9, 2012 at 19:23 #386194I am waiting for the without Big Bucks market to take place as i have a horse who I am sure will be ridden for a place and could quite easily snatch 2nd and steal the coffers.
Hailing from the same yard as Bucks, Five Dreams is only a handicapper but they regularly place in this event and he has been ridden to finish 2nd last twice to Big Bucks and the place money in the Stayers is worth a lot more than the majority of handicaps!!
I actually contacted William Hill yesterday to ask for odds for Five Dream w/o BB as I can yet again see horses believing they can stay with Big Bucks emptying before the finish and Five Dream being able to at least get into a place.
They’ve told me the trading department should get back to me tomorrow so I will post their price if you like??
January 10, 2012 at 09:32 #386259Nostaw: Thanks, they are only offering 12s so I have left it for the moment, I feel that other firms will be more generous
January 11, 2012 at 14:16 #386437Thousand Stars definitely has the champion as his target, so really only one class horse left going up against Big Bucks in Oscar Whisky.
That will be the forecast so try and find a tasty price outsider to take third…January 11, 2012 at 15:00 #386443Jamie: There is a massive difference between winning 2 1/2 miles anywhere and then going up to 3 miles at Cheltenham mate, as much as I am a huge fan of Oscar Whisky I am still unconvinced he will see it out whereas Five Dream will be ridden for the place and could sneak 2nd, that’s my hope anyway!
January 11, 2012 at 16:28 #386455I can see Oscar stalking him all the way up the hill on the bridle….ha ha….who knows, will be interesting to see if he does stay…Henderson thinks he might, so let’s just enjoy the race..
Can’t wait until March!!January 12, 2012 at 23:18 #386660Nostaw: Thanks, they are only offering 12s so I have left it for the moment, I feel that other firms will be more generous
They got back to me yesterday and offered 14’s but I’d sooner wait until they make a decision on what his likely target is.
Obviously he ran in the pertemps qualifier at Exeter earlier in the year which could be an option but he’s gone up 22lbs since that race so I’m not sure whether they’d consider that now as he’d likely be at the top of the weights.
Either way, not a bad horse to follow for place money at usually large odds.
January 13, 2012 at 11:02 #386702It doesnt make any sense to go for a handicap now with Five Dream, especially as the place money on offer for the Stayers is awesome and he has after all chased BB home last twice!
Hopefully the market without BB will come to life soon
January 13, 2012 at 12:18 #386718Five Dream is not quoted by the sponsors, or Betfair in their markets. One might be considered an oversight but both implies there is fair chance that it is not considered to be among his targets.
January 15, 2012 at 01:36 #386940Best entered bet if he make’s it is DEFINITELY Dynaste e/w. He’ll clearly never win it but depending on the field he could well make up good e/w ground. He was better than a front runner in the Long Walk and we all know that, his tactics just let him down. Running his own race I can see him in a place at 33/1 with SportingBet.
January 15, 2012 at 13:09 #386972The only way I can see Oscar Whisky winning is for Barry to drop him right out and turn him off completely. Even if he gives them 6 lengths as long as the horse does not get involved until the death with Big Bucks he has a chance.
If Barry could time it to come very very late he might just get past him and get home e before he can respond Big Bucks can take a little bit of time to change up gears.
If he goes for it sooner he could end up using way too energy and like so many 2nd bests he gets picked off by those running on and ends up out of the 3.
January 18, 2012 at 21:12 #387313I’ve just been reading the PFN Q and A on twitter and an interesting question came up:
"What is the biggest danger to Big Bucks?"
"Five Dream! Or probably Oscar Whisky"
So it sounds like Five Dream is heading here, so it could be time to get those ‘without the fav’ bets on.

Holy Mary don’t take that too literally!!
January 19, 2012 at 09:42 #387357As I highlighted earlier in the thread, Five Dream is a very good option for a place as he will be ridden for a place rather than a win!! The shorter types in the betting will try to get Big Bucks beat but Five Dream will sit way back and run through beaten horses as he has done in his last 2 runs behind Big Bucks!!
The prize money for places in the Stayers is awesome, 12s is your best currently in the market without Bucks and i’ve taken some of that EW (giving you 4 places) and will top up if and when anyone else goes longer!
January 24, 2012 at 15:21 #388077Dai Walters says that Oscar Whisky is 60-40 to run in the World Hurdle.
Good on him for wanting to take on Big Bucks.
I think it will be a test for Big Bucks, taking on Oscar Whisky. Not saying that Oscar Whisky will beat him, but i think he will make him work for a victory, if that be the outcome.
January 24, 2012 at 17:46 #388089Yeah he also said that ‘only a miracle’ would stop Oscar Whisky from running in the World Hurdle.
January 24, 2012 at 22:33 #388154Boz i’m a huge fan of dynaste and agree he was a bit too handy last time could have slowed it down a little and got a better trip out of him.
He did still stretch them all and had bucks puffing a little. My massive worry is he will be one of tthe only ones who has the capability to really throw some sort of challenge down and then weaken to be beaten by weaker plodders.
I’ll be having a sneaky ew interest i suspect but am concerned he will slit his throat with either tactics or being second best but tiring and coming 4th or 5th.
