Kalashnikov was impressive today. Looks a bull of a horse now and will come on for that. Seems a safe fencer who could graduate to making jumping a strong weapon. I’ve backed him at 6/1 for any race at the Cheltenham Festival, although if I could get a tempting price for the Queen Mother Champion Chase I’d take it.
November 9, 2018 at 20:58 #1380075I thought it was a solid performance Steeplechasing without being standout. He jumped ok but finished the race well. I’m not convinced he beat much and I suspect he will be at his best on soft ground. I don’t think this division is the strongest so he’s definitely in the mix but I would like to think we’ll see something more exciting.
November 18, 2018 at 14:03 #1380932Impressive win by Lalor today!
November 18, 2018 at 14:09 #1380933Very impressive.
November 18, 2018 at 14:15 #1380936Grabbed some of the 10s that was about. Didn’t expect him to do that on that ground.
November 18, 2018 at 15:23 #1380954Unusual for so many bookies to get the Arkle price wrong at 10s. I believe it’s been cut now. Before the race I thought you’d need to go back many years to get a better lineup in a pre Christmas novice chase so the way he thrashed them makes him a hot prospect for the Arkle. We say it every season, but the Arkle is going to be a helluva race.
November 18, 2018 at 15:28 #1380955Defi Du Seuil’s jumping was absolutely shocking today. Unless that improves dramatically they might need to think about a return to hurdles.
November 18, 2018 at 16:48 #1380959Lalor should be favourite after that :
A quick time, strong form ( Dynamite Dollars is a very good horse who beat the talented Highway One O One fair and square previously) and the champion jockey very likely to retain the ride come March.
The overhead footage was interesting, as several times Johnson just asked Lalor to check his run, make slight adjustments and the horse responded every time.
I think there’s a potential danger remaining at Seven Barrows but Lalor would be my Arkle pick now.
Great for the yard that he has progressed again.
November 18, 2018 at 17:12 #1380962I think there’s a potential danger remaining at Seven Barrows but Lalor would be my Arkle pick now.
Did you have anyone in mind?
November 18, 2018 at 19:07 #1380972Lalor’s Racing Post Rating of 159 today is joint best (with Al Ferof) of the past 11 runnings of this race. Having said that, not one of the previous 10 won The Arkle (though Dodging Bullets – 146 – won the Queen Mother Champion Chase)
On the flip side again, that’s probably the strongest field ever assembled for this race
November 18, 2018 at 21:37 #1380978Am another who took 10/1 Lalor immediately after the race; I was expecting a lot shorter. Both second and third put up such good performances last time out that were good enough to win an average renewal. For Lalor to beat them so easily was very impressive. Suspect only needs a little improvement in the next few months to win an Arkle. Suppose technically horses are more consistent for the Hendersons, Nicholls, Mullins’ and Elliotts of this world; but what price would Lalor be if trained by any of them? Current 8/1 still seems excellent value for anyone not on yet. Hopefully Hobbs won’t have a good two mile novice and RJ can ride at the Festival.
Value Is EverythingNovember 18, 2018 at 21:39 #1380979Actually…
The 8/1 has gone.
7/1 best now.Value Is EverythingNovember 19, 2018 at 08:20 #1380994Really impressed with Lalor; definitely a better shout than Kalashnakov based on that run and form. Voix De Reve won well also and is into 14/1. Still looking forward to seeing Draconien and Mengli Khan debut over fences. Due to the weather you’d wonder how much schooling the Chasers are actually doing.
November 19, 2018 at 10:29 #1381003Mullins stable tour has confirmed Cilaos Emery to go fency + he goes down as a “Dark Horse” perhaps due to havign missed most of last season.
Fingers crossed i think he could be very good this year.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 19, 2018 at 11:58 #1381022He’ll be interesting over fences.
I thought Voix Du Reve was a little clumsy at times and could be more of a JLT type by March
November 21, 2018 at 22:15 #1386644Willie Mullins confirmed that Draconien is out for the season
November 28, 2018 at 14:36 #1387304Good start by Mengli today, into 8’s. Well done to those on bigger price.
