Excellent post FSL. I think you have made a very convincing case for Shirocco ( well its persuaded me anyhow)
September 27, 2006 at 20:56 #77172Interesting point on Coolmore fillies HappyJ.  Racking my brain to remember fillies tested against colts . Going back to 1998 Shahtoush finished tailed off in the Irish Champion  Sunspangled last of 7 in same race the following year. Don’t think Imagine or Yesterday ran in other than fillies races –  not that many top class fillies out of Ballydoyle recently relative to the colts. ÂÂÂ
September 27, 2006 at 21:27 #77173non-AOB but Damson in the Phoenix? albeit back against the fillies from then on…
September 28, 2006 at 17:12 #77174Is anybody wise as to what Frankie will be riding yet. I understand he was being lined up for Rail Link but I see now Pasquier is booked. Has he chosen between Rail Link and Sixties Icon and gone for the latter which maybe makes SI value at 16/1 if only for EW money.<br>
September 28, 2006 at 20:01 #77175If Dettori has a ride it will be on Sixties Icon. I severely doubt that he ever had the luxury of having a ‘choice’ between Rail Link and the Leger winner. He was probably sounded out by Fabre about possibly riding but was unable to commit so the ride went to Pasquier who rides for the trainer on a regular basis
September 29, 2006 at 19:15 #77176It looks like ground conditions may be very similar to last year so I’m selecting the Hurricane  to blow away Shirocco in an Encore and any Japanese typhoon!  (He won the Prix Niel in a breeze last year in this ground too) 3.85 on Betfair looks more than generous for a small interest.

I was right.
September 30, 2006 at 07:52 #77178I can’t believe that Irish Wells is around 150 on betfair.
Even though it’s hard to look part the big 3, if one of the others wins, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Irish Wells.

September 30, 2006 at 08:46 #77179shirocco is probably the class horse in the field this year, however, i like the look of dylan thomas as a good each way bet.  this horse has improved since the derby and has done nothing wrong apart from one run.  also beat my favourite horse of the year, ouija board and to finish in front of her is a very good result indeed.  so my vote is shirocco just to edge it from dylan thomas with hurrican run third.  deep impact – no chance.

I just can’t see Dylan Thomas making the frame.
Particularly as he’s not actually in the race…

September 30, 2006 at 09:43 #77181Stirring stuff from Zorro today.
If nothing else, we have Deep Impact to thank for a serious return to form from my favourite racing journalist.

Yes but throw out Best Names run in the Irish Derby and the prospect of a slowish pace and 100s on betfair also looks strange…but then again why would you do that.
I agree with you arbout Irish wells but i think the principles look very consistent so its hard to predict if any will underperform. Perhaps ill stick a euro on rag for interest but this would be a no bet race for me.

Having said that, I’m surprised to see that someone backed it at 6 on betfair (£66).
I wouldn’t have it that short!
September 30, 2006 at 10:55 #77184Thanks Prufrock.
For Gus Kennedy,
Football is plops. (Will this do?)
September 30, 2006 at 11:02 #77185Can’t see your handsome mugshot in the Irish edition, Zorro? Were you burning the midnight oil particularly late? ÂÂÂ
September 30, 2006 at 21:41 #77186Yes, Tam Lin’s got some way to go, hasn’t he. But I think he’ll be top liner next year.
But for the Arc, I can’t understand why anyone would want to look beyond Hurricane Run. He’s got the form in the book, on the track and in the race.
All the talk has been about the Japanese job, but HR’s win in the Arc last year was sensational, too. And he’s a heck of a lot more lightly raced, I believe. Maybe, with the small field, he needs a strong pace and won’t get it, but apart from that…? I’ve usually found it’s a bad policy to overlook the obvious form horse, until he proves otherwise. His previous race would have been a prep race, wouldn’t it?
October 1, 2006 at 12:45 #3079I am a very big Deep Impact fan in todays Arc and think he will take some beating but i have 1 nagging worry. That worry would be Y Take, His performance in the Juddmonte last year on Zenoo Rob Roy keeps springing to mind. He was so weak in the finsh and i do believe any of the other jocks would got Zenno up that day. If it comes to a tight finsh with any of the jocks today i can’t see him outbattling them. I also remembering seeing him in the Shergar Cup this year and to be honest he wasn’t much better. Any Views?
