Sounds like an stalls accident at Ayr today.
Ursa Major having terrible luck this year
July 8, 2024 at 21:08 #1701293Left straight after the race and didn’t realise that Thaki had been badly injured. Sad to hear of his demise. R.I.P.
Stewards didn’t cover themselves in glory by producing the following in their report:
‘Katie Scott was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.’
July 8, 2024 at 22:17 #1701307How awful. The horse had run over 50 races and apparently negotiated the stalls safely every time. What went wrong today? Another horse also withdrawn after getting “upset”. R.I.P. Thaki.
July 8, 2024 at 22:36 #1701310From what I can gather Thaki ‘turned over’ in the stalls, presumably rearing an falling backward, but that’s only from what Alan Howes said in commentary. Nazca had been withdrawn shortly before that under ‘veterinary advice’ though that was before stalls entry had commenced.
July 10, 2024 at 09:15 #1701395Just seen a clip and was confused at first, he appears to have gone over backwards, they got him out but then he looked to collapse behind the stalls. You can then see a horse trotting about and at first glance it appears he’s got up, but on closer viewing that’s another horse and you can actually just glimpse Thaki still on the ground behind, mostly obscured by the dip in the ground and all the horses in the stalls.
