Just out of curiosity, has everyone got their selections ready for the start of the flat season?

2000 Guineas – Australia, War Command and Kingston Hill. I like them all, and buy into AOB saying Australia is the best he has ever had. Why would he lie with the horse having such basic form, with the potential of dampening his training reputation? However, do I put all three in, despite only one being able to win the race?

1000 Guineas – Where to start? The hardest part of the TTF for me as always. Am I the only one who finds it hard to get a winning filly/mare in this competition?

Older horses – I will definitely put Treve and Toronado in, as I am sure they will win at least one race each. Telescope is my dark horse, and I think Leading Light will take centre stage for the staying division. Not sure on what else yet.

    What are you’re thoughts?

    Thanks,

    One race each??
I’ll raise you at least two if not every race they enter. :)

Haha i understand the optimism about Treve, but why so much for Toronado?

Also, how do you regard the chances of his stablemates Olympic Glory, Toormore and Night of Thunder this season?

Toronado is breed to improve with age and distance in trip the fact he possess so much speed over a mile is a bonus, he has grown to the size of a house over the winter. Forget his running at York he suffered the same hindrance which occurred in the guineas and that is a negative in as much will it happen again? with the question mark hanging one cant lump on so to speak but if he has an unhindered season he wont lose*

*I am his biggest fan btw.

Olympic Glory has show his best form in softer conditions but does act on quicker just not on sharp dog tracks like Santa Anita, I wouldn’t mind seeing him upped in trip if running on quicker then soft.

Well find out more about Toormore and Night of Thunder in the coming weeks. Toormore took in the group 1 over at the Curragh last year and handled the track with ease so whatever he does in the guineas I think he will take in the Irish version aswell.

Kingman and Night Of Thunder are the two horses who I’ve set my sights on over the winter for the 2000 Guineas and so the Greenham will be of considerable interest to me tomorrow when they both clash. I’ll be very disappointed if they both fail … so one of them has to win!

Kingman has a very snappy gear change due to his nippy acceleration and looks a total class act. Night Of Thunder possesses a well-balanced, powerful stride and picks up speed in no time.

It’ll be a tough choice for me but I’m going to side with Night Of Thunder

Oh and Toronado! Cannot wait to see this beast run again. Provided his breathing problem doesn’t reoccur, he’ll be a force to be dealt with over a mile and possibly at 10 furlongs (though a mile looks like his best trip to me).

Both horses are eye catching. I would put my money on Night of Thunder though. He quickened away well last time out, and will have come on lots over the winter. Plus the fact that you can’t ignore the Hannon strike rate in this race.

Just out of interest, below is a video of Hughes with a head cam onboard Night of Thunder. Very interesting indeed.

Just out of interest, do you think i should include all of these three Guineas contenders in my TTF selection?:

    Australia
    Kingman
    Kingston Hill

As Gosden stated Kingman won’t go beyond a mile, what about the latter? Will they be chasing the same races?

Also, i like War Command, and believe he has a solid chance in the French Guineas, which AOB said he will run in if Australia goes for the English Guineas. Opinion?

Any suggestions for a sprinter as well. Shea Shea is the obvious choice, but is there anything Europe bound that looks to get 50+ points?

Lastly – which mare? Sky Lantern or Dank. Better Still – both?

    Thanks,

Australia is the wild card in the pack. He might be a superstar, could be a flop or perhaps not quite live up to the expectation akin to St Nicholas Abbey in the 2000 Guineas in 2010.

IMO, to beat Kingman, there’d have to be a horse in the race with similar supreme ability to Frankel but I cannot see one. And so I think Kingman will win the 2000 without a shadow of a doubt.

True, but why would AOB be prepared to tarnish his reputation as the greatest flat racehorse trainer of all time, by making such a bold statement?
