I suppose I should apologise for bringing this one back up, but Nick Luck at the start of RUK today asked if this race is "the best 7f group 1 in Europe there’s ever been?"…
and with a 100-1 winner and 33-1 2nd, I think his question was answered appropriately. Appeals to my sense of humour this sort of thing
October 7, 2007 at 08:03 #118294Yes, everyone seemed to jump on the bandwagon of this being the best 7f. race ever run.
Why the concerted effort to big the race up?
Who would have the memory and objectivity to reach such a conclusion anyway?
What do/did they mean by best race?
So many questions?……………..so little time!!!

October 7, 2007 at 10:09 #118299Seeing as it is the only Group 1 7f race in Europe all year, I cannot imagine it would take too much research. Surely this needs putting right by the Pattern Race committee. Not sure what the best race to upgrade would be, probably the Lennox Stakes as the Challenge Stakes comes a little too close to the Foret.
October 7, 2007 at 10:35 #118301Maybe connections of Welsh Emperor might explain to us punters the dramatic turn around of form from their horses odds on flop last time. Patently obvious his flop was a ploy to get big odds on their horse for another tilt at the Foret where he was just pipped in last year.
Racing infuriates me sometimes.
