Is this lad for real?!
April 19, 2010 at 21:00 #291238Now thats what i call a race! The Champion Chase at Punchestown tomorrow looks a cracker! Sizing Europe deserves to be favourite at 3/1,Kalahari King has Davy Russell back on board,Twist Magic has AP to steer him and my selection
Forpadydeplasterer
has his Arkle winning Jockey back in Barry Geraghty,at 5/1 he has to be backed and if i can get Even money to place only,i shall grab it!In my opinion he has the best chance of the whole field to be placed!Remember he bounces off Good ground!
April 21, 2010 at 21:12 #291579I"m busy studying this Grade 1 hurdle race tomorrow at Punchestown and the more i look at it,the more
Karabak
jumps out,his form is certainly comparable to anything in the race and if Alan Kings horses are back to themselves then the 6"s on the machine would be too big,i dont see anything of the calibre of Mikael d"Haguenet in this!
April 22, 2010 at 08:40 #291638Having watched the Punchestown Gold Cup for the 3rd time now,i am convinced
Cooldine
will win next years Ryanair Chase, this horse has a bloody good engine, the trouble is it runs out of petrol after 3 miles, the 2m5f will suit him down to the ground as he does have a bit of toe,i know i can get 14/1 now but i can see connections thinking King George (Florida Pearl),so i will wait and see when Betfair put him up at silly odds! I must give a mention to
Tranquil Sea
who ran very well over what i see as a trip too far, again 21/2m will suit better and even top weight in handicaps on ground with cut will see him win again!
Denman
is just beginning to lose the plot, but freshened up for a 3rd tilt at the Hennessey will prove me wrong again no doubt!

What Cooldine needs is 3m going flat to the mat imo! He has had to cut out his own pace on a couple of occasions this year and I think it’s more a case of not being able quicken than stamina issues.
April 25, 2010 at 20:21 #292493I see Paco Boy is now 7/4fav for the Lockinge at Newbury on the 15th May,we shall see if he"s improved from last year in that! A horse i am convinced will improve this year is Roger Charltons
Cityscape
, i believe the mile will prove to be his ideal trip even though i see he has a 11/4m entry elsewhere, his Dam Tantina was a pretty smart filly who cruised home in a listed race at Doncaster one day over 7f,she found that to be her optimum trip, being a son of Selkirk i would like to think Cityscape has plenty of improvement to come, hopefully he wont encounter ground too firm though as his sire always performed better with a bit of cut.Interestingly Selkirk also won the Lockinge,12/1 is a fair price!
April 26, 2010 at 19:32 #292657If the field, as it is, stands their ground for this years
Dewhurst
then we are in for a cracker! This is yet again a fine crop of 2yo"s consisting of Awzaan,Chabal,Steinbeck,St Nicholas Abbey,Kingsfort,Arcano,Co-ordinated Cut,Showcasing,Cape Blanco,Alfred Noble and the horse i like the look of
Al Zir
.Admittedly one or two look more like Racing Post trophy types, but i have taken the 12 and 8 on Betfair for this beast of a horse! What concerns me is his American breeding,he could be Godolphins Kentucky Derby horse,i would rather see this monster run in the 2000gns!20/1
is temptingI wrote this last October and now that
Al Zir
is finally confirmed as a defineate runner i have to stay loyal to him,i thought this fellow would have been Godolphins Kentucky Derby horse on his breeding so i am pleasantly surprised he is going to Newmarket. He finished a well beaten 3rd behind St Nicholas Abbey and Elusive Pimpernel on Soft ground last year,i expect a big run on faster ground!
April 28, 2010 at 14:48 #292951Hi Gordon. Just checking you got the Racing Post today. Dandy Nicholls stable tour, but I suppose you take one religiously every Good Friday anyway?
May 1, 2010 at 20:03 #293394I cant remember a more disapointing 2000gns,it is blatantly obvious Aidan O Brien doesn"t train one for the race anymore and Evens St Nicholas on that ground was a joke!
Dick Turpin
is the miler to take out of the race and he looks like there is still more improvement to come.If Canford Cliffs is to show his speed he has to be dropped back in trip, the same applies to Awzaan,Al Zir wants a 11/4m and the Coral Eclipse would be ideal. The 2 horses i will take from the race who finished down the field will end up racing a mile apart,
Red Jazz
is another Red Clubs and
Viscount Nelson
is a Derby horse! We shall see! TAPK has to put this years 2000gns down as a big loser!

Think you are spot on about AOB. Someone actaully asked the question should the 2000 Guineas still be a classic the other day on a talk show.

Certainly not as important as it once was now we have gone international big time.
May 3, 2010 at 14:09 #293914TAPK has invested again in this years
St Leger
i started backing my selection
Age of Aquarius
in May this year. I only got 10/1 then, i have since backed him at 12/1, 9/1 and 18 on the machine,to date i have a total of £150 on! I have also had a saver to cover all stakes on
Kite Wood
who looks an obvious danger at 10/1! I cant see Golden Sword running, never mind winning,Father Time and Alwaary are closely matched, they are defineate contenders as i believe the trip will suit! What i cant understand is why Aidan has entered "Age" in the Ebor,he is way better than a handicapper, maybe Aidan doesn"t rate him as highly as my humble self! I can see Age of Aquarius powering down the Doncaster straight, more impressively than Scorpion or Brian Boru did! He was my Dark horse for this year at the start of the season,he is beginning to see the light!
Not only a sickener,a double sickener when you look at the Grand Prix de paris form! Thats the way it goes sometimes! You cant win em all! I thought Frankie threw the kitchen sink at Kite wood, but Mastery out stayed him, Just!
Redemption time,i have backed both my St Leger horses
Age of Aquarius
and
Kite Wood
for this years Ascot Gold Cup at 10"s and 12"s! Here"s hoping!
May 3, 2010 at 22:08 #294020After yesterdays correct decision by the stewards to amend the result of the 1000gns,i thought i would upset myself by watching the re-run of the 2000 Gold Cup and to this day i believe
Far Cry
was robbed by the Stewards! Kayf tara came violently across a couple of horses inside the last furlong and carried Far Cry with him, that manouver cost Far Cry the head he was beaten, therefore the Stewards should have amended the result!Had it been the other way round you can bet any money the Stewards would have reversed the placings!Politics won the day! I did notice a very young sounding R,Hoiles did the commentary that day 10 yrs ago too!
May 5, 2010 at 20:52 #294278Well well,
Syrian
runs at Ripon tomorrow over a mile,he"s currently 8/1 to beat a very average bunch! I shall sleep on it!

Dear Oh dear, what a dissapointment. The horse gets gelded through the winter and returns even worse than before,he has seriously lost the plot now! Jamie Spencer will ride him next time as he is taking the p**s with Hayley!
Come on Jamie, show him who"s boss in the 3.15pm tomorrow at Chester!
May 5, 2010 at 21:33 #294289If ever a horse was a handicap snip it is
Dhaular Dhar
in Saturdays Victoria Cup at Ascot,if he gets in the race,he will run off a mark of 88,he finished 3rd in last years race off a mark of 99! Good/firm ground is pre-requisite
(Big word) to his chances though,25/1 is available and if he runs i expect that to go!
May 7, 2010 at 19:13 #294558Great to see 2 of my big Ante-Post hopes run so well at Chester today,
Age of Aquarius
and
Harbinger
both ran perfect Gold Cup and King George trials and the latter needed to show that bit more speed as he is running a mile less than the former hopefully!
May 7, 2010 at 20:29 #294577Well,well,well i have just been looking at the decs for the
Betfred Sprint
at Haydock and guess who has an entry?
Rip Van Winkle
that will silence those who constantly slated TAPK for describing him as a Sprinter last year, pity Aidan didn"t enter him for the July Cup as that would have been the one race i would have lumped on! The horse is bursting with speed, let him run!
Well,well well again!
Rip van Winkle
has an entry for this years July Cup and as i have already said, this horse is fast enough to win a Group 1 sprint, maybe this year we will see!
Betfair have him priced at 10"s! Tempting!!
May 11, 2010 at 20:39 #295327The
July Cup
is the Number 1 sprint of the year for me and looking at the prices i cant believe Main aim is shorter than Fleeting spirit, she will beat him again this year,no question, the trouble is there are some proper Group 1 sprinting types waiting in the wings,
Awzaan
,
Canford Cliffs
and 2 top of my list
Delegator
and
Alfred Noble
, the former trades at 17"s and the latter is 42"s on the machine, both have experience of the course and speed to burn! Early days!
