Albert Bartlett hurdle
,
Another one of my bankers of the meeting who in my opinion has been over-priced for this all year, much to my pleasure.Sea of Thunder
is my one and only bet in this and I have had more 16/1 than I dare mention.I believe this fellow like ‘First Lieutenant’ will be gambles of the meeting and i will be gutted if both dont at least get placed, good ground will play to his strengths as he can quicken off it after 3m!
Dangers? ‘Boston bob’ on soft ground, nothing else!
Previous winners- ‘Nenuphar Collonges’ 14/1 ‘Weapons Amnesty’ 16/1.Well everybody seems to think ‘Boston Bob’ is past the post….Thats why I have backed
Sea of Thunder
at 5/1 with Ladbrokes this morning, without the fav! a place will still do me though at 16/1.Can he reverse the last time out form though where Boston slaughtered him………We’ll see!
Big loser for me and huge dissapointment!
February 26, 2012 at 21:24 #393801Some interesting selections here. Theres always some surprises at the festival, where the form book is seemingly flung out the window, and I’m hoping THE HOLLINWELL can do just that in the Kim Muir!
I’m with you on the JP McManus runners KF, I too am on Darlan and GMOOH, not going too add my bet on the Champion Hurdle as I think HF will be extremely tough to beat, Binocular is a bit too hit or miss for me.
Provided that he goes for the Grand Annual, I’ll be very interested in NOTUS DE LA TOUR. Cheltenham form – tick, form on good to soft ground – tick, trained by a master – tick. didn’t like the tacky ground in Ireland LTO, but I was very taken by his debut over fences at Carlisle. He’d be my choice along with De BOITRON.

Having lost my first Ante-Post bet on ‘Quito de la Roque’,my main selection now isSynchronised
at 18’s and 12/1,he is probably the biggest surprise of my Ante-Post book as he always looked like an out and out staying handicapper but then again thats exactly what you needed in days gone past,I have also done a small place only bet on ‘Hey big spender’ N/R and ‘Medermit’ at 190’s and ‘Magnanimity’ at 100’s N/R too.I fear only one horse and thats the reigning champ ‘Long Run’.Should ‘Hurricane Fly’ and ‘Sizing Europe’ both win I will be sitting on a voucher for the treble with ‘Long run’ at 36’s!
Danger? ‘Long run’he looks a beast in the flesh!
Previous winners- ‘Burrough Hill Lad’ 6/1 ‘Charter Party’ 14/1,
‘Best Mate’ 3/1, ‘War of Attrition’ 10/1, ‘Denman’ 10/1, ‘Imperial Commander’33/1.I’m more than quietly confident about
Synchronised
,but I’ve said enough about him over the years so I’ll let him do the talking now!
Ran exactly as I expected and the result was never in doubt the moment he set off,he should have traded big in running but didn’t,plenty 10’s and 12’s and it was like taking candy from a baby! Big big winner for me! LOYALTY springs to mind!
February 26, 2012 at 21:38 #393803The Foxhunters
‘Backstage’ was a good thing for this but I’ll be siding with the enigmatic and frustrating classy
Chapoturgeon
,I had great things lined up for this fellow a few years ago but he never made the grade,I’m on at 7/1,fingers crossed!
Dangers? too many
Previous winners-None.Again I’m sticking with
Chapoturgeon
,he had the class, has he still?
2nd yet again but its not a loser!
February 26, 2012 at 21:42 #393804Martin Pipe Conditionals
,
Another tricky one but I have a sneaky feeling aboutBarwell Bridge
,he’s one who has caught my eye around the course in the past!I’m on at 16/1.
Dangers? ‘Final approach’
Previous Winners-None.I’m sticking with my pals Gigginstown in this so its this
Toner Doudairies
for me!
Yet another 2nd place but small profit!
February 26, 2012 at 21:45 #393805It’s a bit of a strange Gold Cup this year I feel. Only two horses with proven top class form against the pretenders, one of which could easily stand up to the challenge (Weird Al perhaps, there seems to be some momentum behind him on TRF). I don’t see it however, and think Long Run will prevail. Wasn’t tuned up in the Betfair, and ran into a rejuvenated KS in the KG. Surely KS can’t make it a hat trick against the younger superstar can he? Cheltenham will be a tough test, where KS has faltered in recent times. Provided his jockey maintains full concentration, I think LR will remind us that he is the new King on the block.
February 26, 2012 at 21:50 #393806Grand Annual Chase
,
I have said to myself for almost a year now that if Alan King runsKumbeshwar
in this Get On,so i have at 16/1,he’s improving all the time and will love the conditions of this race.
Dangers? ‘Kid Cassidy’
Previous winners- ‘Aldino’ 10/1,’St Pirran’ 6/1 ‘Andreas’ 12/1I’m not changing my mind here either, yes I like ‘Kid Cassidy’ but I have a sneaky feeling
Kumbeshwar
has been laid out for this!
He ran a cracker and again a place profit!
February 26, 2012 at 21:52 #393807Day 4
Triumph hurdle
,
Here’s another one we dissagree on Sacred,I was on 2 of Paul Nicholls,’Dildar’ andPearl Swan
,I’m more than happy with the latter and still think he’s got the beating of your ‘Grumeti’,Its between the 2 though! May the best horse win!I’m on at 10/1.
Dangers? ‘Grumeti’
Previous winners,’First bout’ 10/1,’Penzance’ 12/1, ‘Celestial halo’ 12/1,Well my opinion is the exact opposite to yours because Pearl Swan is my danger, although I think he’ll beat him comfortably. There’s obviously a reason why King wanted to give him another run between Cheltenham and the Festival – he didn’t with Franchoek or Walkon. Combination of bigger field, faster pace and Choc on-board will suit him down to the ground.
£50 at 10s, Crafty trading means I stand to win £124 for no stake & £25 double with Moscow Mannon at 120s.
Sadler’s Risk I think has next to no chance, but I’ve got a £17.50 double with him and Moscow Mannon at 76s.
Previous winners –
my list is far longer than yours, Gord! Penzance, Detroit City, Celestial Halo, Soldatino & Zarkandar, the latter at 70s and 75s.February 26, 2012 at 21:54 #393808Albert Bartlett hurdle

Previous winners- ‘Nenuphar Collonges’ 14/1 ‘Weapons Amnesty’ 16/1.Was originally on Fingal Bay. Non-runner. Now on Boston Bob. Likely non-runner. No other bets but I’ll be getting on Brindisi Breeze regardless whether Boston Bob runs or not. Your fella I fear will struggle to do better than 3rd.
Previous winners – Another longer list! Moulin Riche, Nenuphar Collonges, Black Jack Ketchum, Wichita Lineman, Bob’s Worth

Dangers? ‘Kid Cassidy’
Previous winners- ‘Aldino’ 10/1,’St Pirran’ 6/1 ‘Andreas’ 12/1Lol Kid Cassidy. He can’t even jump properly in a 3-runner novice chase when the hot favourite has fallen.
De Boitron 25/1 £60
February 26, 2012 at 22:04 #393811Previous winners –
my list is far longer than yours, Gord!Sacred. my previous winners are only those off the top of my head that were significant to me at the time,I probably have had several winners of the ‘Foxhunters’ for example but just cant remember without going through the form book!
We’ll see how I get on as all the above horses are my final selections,I will bet in running Laying and Playing and have had several Lucky15/31’s but Win Lose or Draw thats them! I would love to know just whereSunnyhill Boy
,
Smad Place
and
Quantitiveeasing
were defineately going mind!
February 27, 2012 at 09:19 #393833KF: Great read, I must think along the same lines as you i’m afraid as I have about 80% of your selections in my portfolio!
I too like the look of Sea of Thunder, Sir des Champs, Al Ferof, Medermit, Sizing Europe (large) and First Lieutenant!
I am also of the opinion that Zarkandar will run a huge race and am happy with my 16s EW, as I am with 6s Long Run.
However, one I am all over like a tramp on chips is ‘Weird Al’ in the Gold Cup both in the regular market at 33s and 25s EW and in the market without Long Run/Kauto Star at 11s EW. To me moving this horse from the talented handicap trainer Ian Williams to the expert ‘big race’ trainer Donald McCain was a masterclass move of huge proportions. They have realised he requires a massive break between runs to show his best and I am very much looking forward to him sitting in behind Midnight Chase, Kauto and Long Run and then HOPEFULLY making his move 2 out and kicking on

I also believe SIMONSIG will win whatever race he goes for, Neptune against Boston Bob or will they swerve that challenge and send him to the Albert OR if Mr Henderson sends him to the Supreme (easier option IMO) he will win convincingly

Bring it on
14 days and countingFebruary 28, 2012 at 20:13 #394074Gord i agree on AL FEROF,BINOCULAR,GMOOH,SEA OF THUNDER,SDC and First Lieutenant
What chance you give Citizenship in county hurdle he passed tons of horses after the last 2 hurdles he likes a big field and a fast pace.
And have you gone off PROSPECT WELLS he be my tip if DYLAN ROSS does not make it.
February 28, 2012 at 20:16 #394075SHADOW CATCHER in the triumph at 20/1 and FISTS OF FURY in 4m novice chase i like ROYAL GUARDSMAN in bumper too.
February 28, 2012 at 21:35 #394094And have you gone off PROSPECT WELLS he be my tip if DYLAN ROSS does not make it.
I rated his ‘Brampour’ run but his last effort really dissapointed me,he looked a poor looking specimen of a horse I cant see him beating
Darlan
,one has battling qualities the other hasn’t imo!The County hurdle is a tough race to find the winner of Darren,’Citizenship’ would be a place play for me.I expect him to be in the 4. I’ve just got a sneaky feeling Venettia has been playing games with
Ciceron
,33/1 wont be his SP!

February 28, 2012 at 22:31 #394105Like I have already mentioned for the past 7 years I have had 7 winners at the festival,I just cant seem to get 8.I know it would seem logical to put up ‘Big Bucks’,’Quevega’,’Hurricane Fly’,’Sizing Europe’,’Grand Crus’,’Sprinter Sacre’,’Scotsirish’, and
Get me out of here
!!
No,Ok ‘Long Run’ and voila 8 winners but thats not my style.I back my own selections irrelevant of how big a price they are,the bigger the better,I/m not one of those who says Ooooooooh its 33/1 that means its got No chance!
