Sometimes you just have to ask, how does a jockey of that calibre throw away victory like that? Astonishing.
He didn’t throw away the race. In fact he damned nearly pinched it from a horse which had more in the tank at the business end. As far as I judged it Thornton kicked on at the right time but Billie Magern just had enough left to get back at him. As an aside I thought that Billie Magern didn’t do a tap once in front, his ears were twiddling(!), and in fact Talkin’ Tough battled back admirably once headed.
Both of these look to be long range staying chase prospects. I like Talkin’ Tough’s long raking stride and he’ll be seen to even better advantage given a galloping track.
