The universe as we know it is 14 billion years old and will continue for hundreds of trillions of years, numbers so large we can’t even imagine. If we are lucky, whether you’re religious or not, we are gifted 80 years on this planet to experience the world and everything around us. With the universe having such a long future and such a deep past, the odds of time being right now where it is, 2022, where all of us reading this forum get to live, breathe and appreciate the world around us, are so finite that they’re almost incomprehensible.

There are plenty of things that annoy us and get us riled up, whether it be the train being delayed on your way to work, or getting stuck it traffic, or getting pipped at the post by a 50/1 newcommer…..at least we get to appreciate and experience it all, for in the near future none of us will get that pleasure.

Just be thankful for each day you get to walk outside, look at the sun, speak to a loved one, catch up with a friend. Be happy, life is short, beautiful and so incredibly rare.

We won’t be here for long, it’s a beautiful day to be alive.

Wise words, Ben. One of my oldest friends has been diagnosed with Altzheimers and I’m trying to make a point of taking each day as it comes. Whatever we all think about the first lockdown, there was something quite beautiful about sitting in the garden listening to the silence ( I live near to an airport and a busy road). Many people reappraised their lives at the time but it didn’t last long!

Sorry to hear about your friend moe, a nasty illness, I often wonder if or when we will get to the point where we no longer have to worry about things like Altzheimers and cancer. But agreed mate, I live on a busy road too and am kept awake most nights by busses and sirens, the first lockdown made me realise I hated my job and so took the leap to go to university now aged 29 to study.

I kinda think we knew all that already.

I’d be a bit worried about anyone who hadn’t figured all that out by now!

“Ian you never go out and see how angry people are? It’s a mad house out there!”

I’m not saying they are right, but they get “angry” for the exact reasons you describe.

The universe and time dwarf the human lifespan, which for many just increases the imperative to make the most of the time they have, to get ahead, feel they have achieved and to live in the kind of world they want to live in.

People react to your universal truth in different ways.

I just back as many long-priced winners as I can and eat as much Goan fish curry with chapatis as I can.

    Peace out.

Tbh, I’d rather visit said curry house than listen to Bob Dylan.

“The answer, my friend, is….a King Prawn Pathia with pilau rice, you bloody hippy! And I’m not your friend!”

    Peace out.

“The universe as we know it is 14 billion years old and will continue for hundreds of trillions of years”,

Are you sure it is going to last that long Ben?
With “advances in technology” / weaponry and religious extremism, those two things together make it highly unlikely this part of the universe will last “hundreds of trillions of years”.

I’ve backed the World to end @ 100/1 by the time I’m 100 years old in 2066. ;-)
    Best value bet ever!
