Have backed this horse time and time again since I saw him win the Roses Stakes back at the York August meeting of 2005 … regularly contesting Group and Listed races along with some very competitive handicaps over the years showing good pace until being run out of the places in the closing stages … only once since then has he managed to pay me back with a win … and that was nearly 2 years ago at Redcar.

Sat watching the evening racing on ATR (and no,I don’t have an online or telephone account) … I hadn’t even spotted he was running until just before the start of the 7.50 at Donny … quickly sizing up the field they didnt look fit to lick his saddlecloth to be honest even given the fact that it was six furlongs as opposed to his preferred five … so why the hell was he 33’s, touched 40’s ???

You can guess the rest … smartly away from the stalls and set alight by Michael Stainton two furlongs out … cue that terrible sinking feeling as he never looked like getting caught even though I was praying for something to come from the clouds and pip him on the line.

… and the Tote returns just to rub it in ?? … £50.70 for a win and £10.20 for the place … pass the bucket, I think I want to throw up !!!!

Well if you had backed him in all 45 of his runs Burrough you would have just won all your losses back! Sickener that happens to us all i"m afraid! Tabaret has run some solid races in the past and deserved this one unfortunately for you!

Absolutely right TAPK … one of many over the years and goes with the territory I’m afraid … trust me, the feeling tonight doesn’t begin to remotely come close to missing Canton in the 1983 Scottish Grand National … an episode so bizarre it’s worthy of a short story all by itself … if anything has ever come close to making me pack up betting (even at my relatively modest levels) it was that day.

… oh, and Tottenham coming from 4-2 down in injury time to draw 4-4 with Arsenal in Oct 2008 to deny me a £500 return on a six match accumulator.

… and still we keep coming back for more
