September 10, 2018 at 18:47 #1373465We visited Aarau a couple of years ago whilst staying in Zurich. It’s about 25-30 minutes on the train from Zurich and there are loads of trains even on a Sunday. Course is about a mile and a half from the station and buses from there go past the course which is part of a sports complex including athletics, swimming and football.
The course is about 7 furlongs round, with a steeplechase course inside the flat course, hurdle races are run on the flat course and there’s a cross-country course making it’s way back and forth in a series of loops. Cards include, flat, trotting, hurdles, steeplechases and cross-country events. THe meeting before the one we visited even had a trotting race with children driving miniature ponies.
Admission for a reserved seat in the ‘Tribune’ was CHF30, I think it was CHF25 for an unreserved seat and cheaper if you ‘slummed it’ in the standing enclosure.
