I don’t think 6/4 is a very fair price for Rip Van Winkle, I think he is a versatile horse and does have the speed for the 1m, but it’s he who has it to prove here and not Ghanaati, she is stil available at 2’s and that is value imo as she should be the favourite here.

Ghanaati has a scintillating turn of foot and I think she could get around a 2l-3l march on RVW, depends on if he can cut her down or not. They are clearly not scared on taking the colts on which is a good sign, she could have went the easier route and continue to take on the fillies so they hold her in high regard.

Paco Boy as much as I love the horse could be out of his depth here, a G1 over Cesare which hasn’t turned out well formwise would be enough to make me leave him.

Lord Shanakill is a decent horse and was right up there with Mastercraftsman and Delegator, I think he is currently good each way value at 10/1.

Forgotten Voice looked a group horse in a handicap at Royal Ascot but slumped to a remarkable loss at Doncaster last time out, I think this is well out of reach.

Lahaleeb would be better value 8 pts better value than Forgotten Voice and I think she is better than him, 25/1 would be very good value if its soft although highely unlikely it seems. Could place at best.

Paco Boy for me, just love the horse.. with only and only Ghanaati to have any worries about.

Ghanaati for me Rip Van Winkle to me seems a horse that will always be a placed horse in the Group 1 races.

6/4 the rip isn’t value, i cannot keep him out of the first 3 tho, maybe a reverse forecast on the two obvious ones. i did say to myself weeks ago that mr hills horse should be followed until beaten. :?

I think RVW should be good for this one. I wouldn’t do Ghanatti any diservice by saying she’s anything other than a top class filly. I don’t hold too many questions over the distance considering RVW holds an entry for the sprint cup and was good for 10F at Sandown. The pace makers are the decisive factor for me in making this selection.

RedRiot how can you say 6/4 for RV is not a fair price,he finished 4th in the Derby and was second in the fastest Eclipse ever run and only a length behind one of the best horses we’ve seen for a long time in Sea the Stars. This is his easiest task to date and 6/4 is a fair price for that reason.

And maybe because neither of those races were over a sharp 1m?
He lacked pace over the Rowley Mile too

    I agree

I think Rip needs at least 10f, if not further – 6/4 is a shocker of a price and will get beaten
I should think Ghanaati and Paco will fight out the finish

Sea The Stars is not the fastest ever Eclipse winner, Mtoto posted a quicker time, Wikipedia have that wrong. However he was pretty close, but that was 1m2f and a fast one at that, Rip Van Winkle has it to prove, Ghanaati is value imo should be favourite.

Ghanaati broke Ascot’s course record being eased down, she set a super fast time in the Guineas, I can’t see how RVW is the better horse over the mile, he has it all to prove imo, if it was 1m2f I could see why people would back him at 6/4 he was pretty awesome I thought at Sandown but he is in Ghanaati’s world at 1m so I cant really see how he should be favourite, he is a lay at 6/4, and Ghanaati is the horse to back here.

Still none of Galileo’s male progeny have won over a mile as a 3yo or older. Both Nightime and Lush Lashes won over the trip as 3yos, the Irish 1000 on heavy and the Coronation Stakes & Matron Stakes respectively. The two races RVW ran in that were similar to a mile (Guineas and Derby) he has the comment ‘lacked pace’ by his name. I can’t see how he can possibly be fast enough to win this. It’s definitely a no-bet race for me but Ghanaati should win.

I don’t know why people are are rating Rip’s ability at a maile on his guineas run. He had a setback beforehand, and was quite obviously rusty that day, he ran a very similar race to Mastercraftsman. And look what MC has done since at a mile, and he had no stone bruise.

Yep, just look what MC has done since; won on bottomless ground at the Curragh, and a hard-fought last-gasp win around Ascot’s stiff Old MIle, mainly courtesy of his 2 pacemakers setting such a searing test.
You’d really have to wonder why MC’s next engagement is in the 10.5f International, and not in tomorrow’s race, wouldn’t you? :)
