No strong feelings on the race, but have had a small bet on Gilgamboa
Good luck
March 11, 2014 at 11:27 #470804New to the forum, never seem to do very well at the festival but thought i’d offer my opinions on the race.
I’m in agreement with BigG, The Liquidators last run should probably be discarded. Kempton was most likely on the sharp side for him and a return to Cheltenham should be a positive.
I won’t be siding with Irving or Vantour as they are too short for my liking in a big field. Irving is yet to go left handed over jumps and Vantour was pushed close by Western Boy a couple of runs ago which would seem better value at 18/1.
Finally i’ve had a small each way bet on Germany Calling. Finished a fair way behind Irving at Kempton last time out but again should appreciate the return to Cheltenham in which he posted a decent time.

Garde La Victoire
and The Liquidator ran below par in the Tolworth after performing well at Cheltenham.
Those respective efforts were too bad to be true, and both will be happier around Prestbury Park – there’s no denying that Kempton and Cheltenham are like chalk and cheese.
I had been very impressed with the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding prior to that excusable effort and connections know the type required after Menorah triumphed in 2010.
Josses Hill
found only one too good at Kempton in the Tolworth, mugged close home. I’m not convinced Cheltenham will be his track, but he’s open to plenty of improvement and is a likeable type from a top stable.

March 11, 2014 at 13:51 #470841Just witnessed a special horse I think.
March 11, 2014 at 13:57 #470843It probably wouldn’t have made much difference there but does Walsh own the inside track at Cheltenham? Must an advantage to have both the lead and the rail.
March 11, 2014 at 14:00 #470845I think they tried to take him on,just couldn’t go quick enough!
March 11, 2014 at 14:03 #470847Winner looks special.
As an Irving backer was watching him closely, knew he wasn’t going to win after the first flight Scholfield never looked comfortable. Not sure if it was the big field or the fast pace that done him.
Sgt Reckless won me a few quid back running into 4th he could be an interesting one next year, flew home!!
March 11, 2014 at 18:25 #470925I believe that is the first time I have seen the winner race. Very, very impressive. What a gorgeous looking horse too.

Aye, which is partly why i think Un De Sceaux would have been interesting in the Champion Hurdle
Strange run from Irving. Might have been the course but i doubt it because he didn’t seem to travel at any stage.
