Jezki ran a decent race in the bumper last year, he certainly didnt ‘bomb’ and he wasnt particularly strongly fancied. Watch the race, he just wasn’t as strong a horse as he is now by the looks of it. The New One finished around him, he’s improved since massively.
March 6, 2013 at 12:50 #431473Best news of Cheltenham so far for me, Cheltenian takes his chance and I get a run, have him at 90 and 85’s
March 6, 2013 at 12:58 #431474fair enough shack, each to their own. for me the biggest negative about jezki is the long absence.
dodging bullets is an interesting case. (although another long absence to overcome.)
second season novice as he didn’t win as a four year old, I wonder what the stats are on horses running in their second novice hurdle at the festival?
loomed up last year looking like he was going to win, and you’d imagine that he’d be a stronger animal now and brings a lot of experience to the table. his form with darlan is very good.
but for me it would be disappointing if he’s good enough, as to some extent he’s exposed..if there is going to be a superstar in this it’s going to be a my tent or yours, an un atout, a jezki

Really can’t decide whether to pull the trigger on Cheltenian or not, the top 3 in the betting are scaring me but Cheltenian may well prove himself in this to be up there with the best of them. It’s hard to know how good he’ll be after just one run after his long lay off.
March 6, 2013 at 13:07 #431476Hobbs does a grand job getting his horses right there for the festival, lightly raced and still put a good show against a fully fit Minellaforfitness.
Fitness wouldn’t be an issue for me, probably the hurdling I’d be more worried about.

Well then lets hope his hurdling benefits from that recent run! Just put a cheeky £2.50 e/w on him at 25’s
fingers crossed!
March 6, 2013 at 16:08 #431484Reference above and Chatterbox non runner in 2012 Bumper, I read somewhere that Henderson does not like entering his potential good horses in the Bumper as "it can bottom them out if winning it" I think he has a point given the poor return of bumper winners and them going on next year to the Supreme.
Dropped out of Supreme, still in the Neptune on wednesday, only one of Hendersons entries
March 6, 2013 at 19:53 #431505I think dodging bulletts has to be the best bet of the race @ 10/1 ew value in a supreme is a must and i wouldnt be surprised if this resilient horse came away with the money
March 7, 2013 at 07:51 #431533Cheltenian and River Maigue as each way bets for me. Had my fingers burnt on some short ones in this and as good as MYOY looks, I can’t have him at the prices.
March 7, 2013 at 11:44 #431549Got a piece of Un Atout at 16/1 as only insurance to My Tent Or Yours, been second in this race last three years punting, so hopefully a change is due..
March 7, 2013 at 22:49 #431618With the first day going now long odds on to be soft and the vibes for Pont Alexandre increasing hourly, I suspect NTD will be cursing himself as a fool for taking The New One out of The Supreme
March 8, 2013 at 12:25 #431653Ruby Walsh chooses Champagne Fever, U-turn over the Albert Bartlett, well I’d say a O turn.
March 8, 2013 at 14:40 #431670Excellent news. I wrote this on a footy forum a couple of days ago
Supreme Novices Hurdle – Champagne Fever at 16’s. There are few front runners in the race and although the trainer Willie Mullins wanted to run this horse in other races, the owners have other horses for those but not for this. That and the likely soft going could mean Champagne Fever lines up and sets off without a challenger at the head of the field. He won at the festival last year and although he’s more of stayer than most of these, you need to be in this race, especially in this gorund.
The crowds excitement is tangibly electric, jockeys are hyped, the whole course is a buzz and some horses waste their energy before the tape goes up. This horse has speed and stamina.
It’s a bloody tough race but you get 16-1 for a horse who was beaten just over a length earlier in the season by Jezki, who is 9-2.March 9, 2013 at 11:07 #431791think champagne fever would not mind the softer ground but a place is the best he can hope for
workerMarch 10, 2013 at 22:43 #431951I have shut myself away from society and immersed myself in this race for the last four hours. At first, I narrowed it down to six:
Champagne Fever, Cheltenian, Jezki, Melodic Rendezvous, My Tent Or Yours and Un Atout
Here’s how I reduced it down to one.
I think the stamina test and 3lb swing will turn around the form between Jezki and Champagne Fever, so that put a line through him. On ratings compared to previous years, My Tent Or Yours will win, but he has a similar running style to fellow Henderson Supreme blowouts Darlan and Binocular. I can’t back a likely bridle horse at that sort of price.
Un Atout is described as ‘a stayer’. This race is usually won by future Champion Hurdle contenders, so he’s in the bin.
Cheltenian is by Astarabad, which suggests he will struggle on the soft ground. He has always avoided soft surfaces in the past, too.
This left me with Champagne Fever and Melodic Rendezvous. I lean away from Champagne Fever as his limitations seem to be have been exposed a little this season. The ground and course will suit, but
Melodic Rendezvous
has shown greater speed in addition to solid stamina.

Don’t worry, he won’t be described as a stayer after tuesday.
