Dunguib made his debut jumping any thoughts on him today and i am hopeing he wins at the Festival as well.
Any other horses for the race at Cheltenham as well.
October 25, 2009 at 20:03 #255377Dunguib could be anything. He’s got a hell of an engine and provided he jumps well he could be a superstar.
Two of his scalps from last year could clash at Punchestown on Wednesday – Some Present and Sweeps Hill. Both were easy winners of maiden hurdles over the past fortnight. As usual the Irish picture will become a lot clearer after the Royal Bond.
Meade doesn’t appear to have any novice hurdlers of note so far. Pointillist could be decent but he’ll probably need further than two miles. One or two of Willie’s bumper brigade from last year might turn out to be a good hurdler. Lios A Choill maybe?
I’m not too familiar with any of the English horses but presumably Nicholls, Pipe, Henderson etc will have a few decent ex-flat horses going over timber after Christmas.

Couldn’t help but be impressed with that despite the fact there were at least 12 non triers in the race.
I found it quite amusing watching those behind making absolutely no effort to get into the race. The stewards in these cases definitely close one eye which isn’t fair to the EW punter but such is life.
On Dunguib himself I agree who could be anything but unless I am sadly mistaken he’s already something very, very special.
Bumper form rarely turns out the way you think but this horse is the most exciting prospect I have seen since Golden Cygnet and could be heading for greatness.
October 26, 2009 at 08:13 #255435I wouldn’t go that far Fist – you’re effectively getting three places about a 7 horse race (if you count 20 non-triers out the back)
October 26, 2009 at 12:31 #255464In all my years watching NH racing, I have not seen one horse who travels with such effortless ease during his races as Dunguib.
I accept that he has not come against anything of note to date, and as a novice, he has yet to be fully tested, and that much stiffer opposition awaits – but in the meantime, I will definitely not be betting against this horse, irrespective of the opponent – Hurricane Fly included.

It is a pity ( although quite correct ) that he was disqulified last season for having a banned substance found in his bloodstream – which slightly tarnishes an impeccable reputation. I think we can safely say that Dunguib requires no such illicit additives in order to enhance his already doubtless ability.
He looks a monster.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
October 26, 2009 at 13:51 #255478Luska Lad just gave another little boost to Dunguib’s form at Ballybrit. Everything that was in behind him last year is coming out and winning over timber. Some Present, Sweeps Hill, Benbane Head and now Luska Lad.
October 26, 2009 at 21:44 #255573If Benbade Head was trained by a top stable, people would be making this out to a great prospect.
he would never have started at 16-1.If BH trots up in such style, having finished tenth in CHampion Bumper, then Dunguib is something special.
I thought BH was a good thing at Chelt and he duly obliged. The trainer was very optimistic in his local paper column. Remember Keighley learned his trade at the Nicholson yard, so he’s not a duffer.
October 27, 2009 at 07:26 #255601Undoubtedly Dunguib is an exciting prospect but the 5/2 on offer by some firms is, at this stage, laughable. As quite a few people have probably already stated, I would want 5/2 about him turning up fit and well come March. Remember, Cousin Vinny started as a hot fav in the Supreme Nov’s last year and got turned over, also with an inexperienced jockey on board. If this horse is as good as they think then they need one of the top jocks on board……
October 27, 2009 at 14:42 #255649Make no mistake about it, Brian O’Connell is a top class jockey, one of the best talents around. No comparison between him and PW Mullins
October 27, 2009 at 15:46 #255657Agree with an earlier comment, "most exciting prospect I have seen since Golden Cygnet"
Had almost given up on the prospect of feeling this excited again over a young un.
Lets hope for racing’s sake that he stays sound.
October 27, 2009 at 16:11 #255661Definately agree with the comment that Brian O’Connell is a potentially top jockey and anybody doubting it should watch the ride he gave Lucky at Last yesterday at Galway.
I don’t think Dunguib fans need worry about the jockey in fact given that he has ridden him in all six outings it is probably wise to continue the partnership rather than trying one of the big name jocks
October 27, 2009 at 16:16 #255663Word is that Brian O’Connell will be turning pro in the next few months.
No worries about the jock as far as I’m concerned.
October 27, 2009 at 17:34 #255678Interesting race tomorrow at Punchestown between Sweeps Hill and Some Present. Personally I’m a Some Present fan, I thought he showed an impressive turn of foot the last day. Also, I know his vicim when he won his bumper, Gormanstown Cuckoo, is quite well regarded so I’d be hoping Some Present will win tomorrow, although on form with Dunguib there’s nothing between the pair.
October 27, 2009 at 17:56 #255685So with Sweeps running tomorrow and Luska running well in Galway earlier this week is it worth having a quick trade on Dunguib with the view he might drift slightly?
Actually probably better off backing Sweeps, nothing much on the lay side of Dunguib.
October 27, 2009 at 17:59 #255686If Some Present’s jumping has improved for the experience of his first run, I’d expect him to beat Sweeps Hill. I didn’t like Sweeps Hill’s head carriage or the way he flashed his tail at Limerick Junction – could possibly be a horse that could resent McCoy’s style of riding tomorrow?
October 27, 2009 at 21:25 #255743I have no doubt Brian O’Connell is a decent jock and will only get better with time. It is not his talent I am questioning but his experience. The rough and tumble of the Festival opener will be quite an eye opener for someone with little (any?) experience of jumping round the demanding Cheltenham circuit. He may of course gain some experience at Prestbury Park before March……..
