I stopped in at Paddy Power on the way home and had a piece of their 10/1 about Flaming Spear.

This strong traveller has graduated from the handicaps with form on a par with anything Ballet Concerto or Tabarrak managed in that sphere. With rain expected to hammer down all week, the ground will be in his favour on the day. He does have an entry in a handicap at Ascot on the day but I think there’s plenty enough scope in the price to take the risk.

I can’t see much juice in the other prices as the first lines hit Oddschecker although I wouldn’t want to be Hills laying 6/1 Ballet Concerto.

    Anyone fancy anything here?

Not a race I’d normally look at Soldier, even at the 5 day stage, but as it looks as if I’ll be making the trip down on Saturday, I have to have a go, and I’d agree with you here.

10’s is too big for Flaming Spear, and I’ve followed you in. He really impressed me at York, and looks the type to progress further. Fingers crossed he doesn’t go to Ascot.

with all the rain about will throw a few shillings ew on Mitchum Swagger(around 10s)and although up near the head of the market,i think haydock will suit Morando a lot more than leopardstown did

I like Michum Swagger as well for this nwalton. Well done on getting 10-1.

I notice That Boylesports are paying out up to 4 places for this race so that tempts me to leave out Mitchum Swagger and take a chance on Victory Bond at 16-1

SOVEREIGN DEBT. Soft ground won’t be a problem, he’s won under his penalty already and you know he’ll give you his running.

I’m on Ballet Concerto at 7/1. He has some decent form on a softer surface and a bit more stamina in the tank then a few of these should it turn into trench warfare late on. He’s a horse I like and I’ve had a little saver on Benbatl at 4/1 just in case as the Godolphin colt is the main danger in my book.

Great call with that one Charles. I passed on that race, as I felt it looked very tough.

I have been looking at Big Country for the Cambridgeshire this season and it was nice to see Ballet Concerto pop up to boost the form from York in July.

Big Country has gone from 75 to 100 in the ratings since February and looks to have been kept for the big field Handicap. I’ve had a few quid at 16/1 on Big Country and could see him single figures on the day.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Cheers guys. I’m not entirely sure where they’ll go with Ballet Concerto now. The Joel Stakes at Newmarket towards the end of the month would seem the logical step but I’m not sure Newmarket is his course.

If he keeps improving then he could be a type for next year’s Queen Anne.

He won that nicely Charles, and if not the Queen Anne, he just looks the type who’ll do very well at Royal Ascot, wherever he goes. Bad day for me at Haydock, and he was the only horse, who had me kicking myself for not backing. Smashing price as well for you.

Mitchum Swagger is getting a bigger rogue by the furlong.
