I was being a little bit provocative, Jeremy.

Midweek fixtures in the afternoon probably do make sense a lot of the time, especially, as you say when there is a longstanding fixture which is well supported. I just feel like the powers that be aren’t thinking carefully enough about staging fixtures to maximise attendance.

My role of running a syndicate really brings that home to me. If one of our horses races midweek then most members can’t attend. On Sunday, we had a parade ring full of beaming owners which is what it’s all about at the end of the day.

I’ll send you a PM about Carter 8)

I am grateful to be able to attend midweek afternoon fixtures from time to time. Outside the summer months there are very few spectator sports on midweek afternoons. Racing almost has the field to itself. We are told there are a great many more people working part time hours at present but I`m sure that will have escaped most of those running the sport. I do not attend on Sundays ( can do without all that `something for all the family` approach).

Very unscientific but here are photos of the Ascot crowd taken before the first races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I have to say Friday was like a morgue with very little atmosphere. Saturday, as would be expected, was very busy. Sunday was a very decent crowd, certainly more than there would have been mid-week.
