If there is a horse tailor made for the Arkle its Padydeplasterer a stiff 2m will suit him down to the ground and looks every inch a chaser currently 20/1 for the race looks tempting very lightly raced individual who can only improve!
He doesn’t have an earthly based on both his poorish performance in March and his curates egg of a chase debut last week. He may make the grade in time, but I reckon it will be as a handicapper over two and a half miles. He represents zero value for the Arkle at the moment.
The Ante-post king sits proud on his throne!
Fair play Mr Wilson – I really fancied him to make a great chaser this year but his first couple of performances put me off.
I’m not sure what the form will be worth in the future though.

Aragorn, take a look at last years Ballymore hurdle, look at the quality of the field, and the fact that the trip was just too far for "pady" who at the time was as green as a pea, then look at the confirmation of the horse and
you will see what i saw!March 11, 2009 at 19:55 #215354Fair play Cooldine hammered them. Gold Cup got to be on the agenda next season he didn’t put a hoof wrong.
Fantastic run from Carruthers I didn’t think he’d run that well.
The Irish are dominating. Where’s this Irish demise people have been going on about? Us English are getting a right pasting.

Grow up, GWILSON77.
He was obviously trained to the minute to win a poor Arkle (given the early exit of Tatenen and one or two below par performances) so won’t, I would suggest, go on to achieve all that much.
March 11, 2009 at 23:57 #215430Surely Kauto Star is different class from Cooldine?
If they meet in 2010 there the young pretender won’t get within 5 lengths of the Champ-in-waiting.

March 12, 2009 at 00:20 #215434This race currently looks the trickiest to assess for the Ante-post punter.
There is an abundance of potential 3m Novice chasers to look forward to,
2 of the early Ante-post favs do not appeal to me at all Cooldine and Beshabar but i do like Tranquil sea, Breedsbreeze, Thetotherone,Fiveforthree, Wichita lineman and one in particular Massinis
maguire i look forward with interest as to how they progress!EQUI,
Look how wrong i got it with Cooldine! i did back Massinis at 40 to win and 10 to place though! Take it on the chin when you put your foot in it!March 12, 2009 at 13:47 #215574Really fancy Cooldine myself as well GN. I’ve had my biggest antepost bet on him for Cheltenham. His progression as a novice hurdler was very impressive and he was far from disgraced against the older experienced horses at Punchestown in the Stayers Hurdle.
I can’t have What A Friend over him at all. Nicholls’ horse has a very suspect head carriage to my eyes and I’m not convinced he’ll find an awful lot off the bridle. He wouldn’t have got near Cooldine over hurdles and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ruby rode Cooldine instead of him.
Moskova has franked the form of his beginners chase and Willie has a good record in the race. My only slight concern is that most of his novice hurdle form is at right handed tracks like Thurles, Fairyhouse, Punchestown and Clonmel. It is only a minor concern though because he seemed to handle Cheltenham quite well when 7th in the bumper in 2007.
Get in there you beauty!

Still a bit worse for wear after the feed of celebratory pints of porter last night. It probably wasn’t the greatest renewal on the race but you can’t take anything away from the way Cooldine won it. Carruthers set a gruelling pace and put the jumping of everything else under pressure. Cooldine jumped like a stag though and he was the only one who could go with Carruthers. He was unfortunate to root the third last but he was probably running out of puff at that stage and Ruby had him well covered.
I’ve loved this horse since he slugged it out with Chasing Cars at Fairyhouse last year and I see no reason why he can’t be a Gold Cup horse next year. Kauto Star isn’t getting any younger and there doesn’t exactly seem to be a whole army of young contenders to the staying chase crown. I recall some people knocking the form of the PJ Moriarty last month but the front two have now won the Arkle and Sun Alliance between them!
In Willie we trust!
March 12, 2009 at 15:01 #215603They need to get a decent jockey on Carruthers, would have finished second with one on. Went too fast and failed to organise the horse at a number of fences.
