I wouldn’t give Ballyfitz a second thought either. Novices leave early form lines miles behind on their way up..YOu can get two horses separated by a length and one could end top top class the other could end up being very moderate…The speed some horses can improve at is mindboggling ..I think you have to watch the horse and take it a race at a time…….
.As far as his head carriage could be a sign he could end up a bit of a rougue but it hasn’t stopped the likes of Tidal Bay doing well……..time will tell but PN will be sure to be working on it if he sees it as a problem
December 15, 2008 at 22:42 #197118I am a huge ballyfitz fan and will not be put off by the last run, but on a note of caution…. I went to see the horses in the parade ring before the race and to say What a Friend looked rough would be an understatement. He had sweated up a lot, hie coat was not rough, but out of condition and is a small in comparison to Ballyf.
He must come on heaps for the run, but looked like he would handle the soft/ heavy going better than Ballyf and WAF is a true stayer and perhaps one for 3m2f next year.
Ballyfitz looked as good as ever beforehand, but he is such a big horse with that low head carriage I am sure the ground was not truly to his liking.
I will not be considering WAF ante post, but based on the fact he must have more to come I do think he could be a danger if the ground is testing (unlikely I know)
December 16, 2008 at 22:18 #197438After reading your post I backed him again
The other thing that swings me towards him is PN saying he may go straight to Cheltenham……he must thing one helluva lot of him to consider doing that.December 19, 2008 at 03:37 #197941Massinis Maguire is a very big price and while he still has a way to go,as they all do, he has lots going for him.
Market Man is a cracking prospect but seems a bit fragile so not an AP option. But if he got there he is a classy type.December 24, 2008 at 23:44 #199062Let’s face it, What A Friend is NOT another Denman. He will not be on the bridle for as long as he was against Ballyfitz if going for the RSA. If as many go for the RSA as is possible then hold up tactics will not be the order of the day in such a hustle and bustle affair as is likely for fear of being brought down.
I will lay WAF all day long if he goes for it. The RSA chase invariably goes to a true "stayer" and Gone To Lunch is a ridiculous price. This horse WILL end up in a Gold Cup and he WILL be placed in one even if he doesn’t quite manage to win one. He is a top class animal who excels around Cheltenham’s undulations and he is the one.
December 25, 2008 at 01:11 #199083Who said he was another Denman………Alberta’s Run won it last year and I can’t say I noticed much H and B………Gone to Lunch is certianly nothing Special and million miles of Gold Cup Stadards…… .no way he would have beaten The Totherone who was just getting going when he took a tumble. You will need to come up with a better one than that to beat this fellow at Cheltenham……… I doubt if Hold em would be 33/1 on Friday if the form was worth anything….good luck you are going to need it with GTL who won’t even be good enough to go to Cheltenham never mind win there
December 27, 2008 at 03:14 #199397I like "Breedsbreeze" and his jumping is coming along nicely, but i still have a doubt or two about 3m around Cheltenham, i wouldn"t bet anything
against him over 21/2m in Novice company. "Massinis Maguire" is going
to struggle even more over 3m around Cheltenham and i dont think "The Market man" has any chance at all at Cheltenham (dont like his action at all) "Fiveforthree" is the only horse i am still waiting for!December 28, 2008 at 05:17 #199745Big day for Trafford Lad tomorrow at Leopardstown in the Grade One 3m Novice chase, still I have yet to be convinced about him over fences. If Siegemaster improves his jumping I can see him upsetting the favourite.

December 28, 2008 at 07:55 #199763I’m a fan of Breedsbreeze. This normally happens when a horse I back obliges every time! Apart from that, he seems to have all the right ingredients.
I’m sure he’s a potential GC winner and what price for 2010?

Jim Lewis, will insist "BreedsBreeze" will be trained for the 09 "king george"
he is Gold cup class but Stamina???December 28, 2008 at 18:43 #199832Trafford Lad beaten today just outstayed by Casey Jones. Can’t see him getting up the Cheltenham hill. I still like What A Friend at this stage.
December 28, 2008 at 19:07 #199842So does Paul Nicholls Ian.

We will wait and see FoF. Looking forward to seeing who comes out on top if they both get there!

Agreed. I thought he got the trip OK, but they go that little bit quicker in the RSA, couple that with the Cheltenham Hill and he’ll find it a very big ask.
Breedsbreeze for me at this stage.
December 29, 2008 at 04:24 #200044I was very disappointed by the Ballyfitz performance at the last Cheltenham meeting. But the more I see of this division the more I think all hope is not lost. TD stable was/is in bad form at the time and he still looks the most equpped for the rigours of the festival and the RSA in particular and all it entails.
Have had a bit more on just shy of 30s.January 3, 2009 at 01:24 #201111I think there’s a lack of strength in this division.
You have your out and out stayers like Gone to lunch and What a friend and then you have dubious stayers like Breedsbreeze and Aran Concerto.
If Fiveforthree can jump fences he could win this quite easily. Anyone know whats going on with him?
January 3, 2009 at 01:49 #201128Willie stated in his stable tour in the RP that Fiveforthree had been a bit slow to come to hand. He said that he wouldn’t be running before Christmas and that chasing was the plan but if they didn’t think they could get enough experience into him before Cheltenham they would stick to hurdles and keep him a novice over fences till next year.
Haven’t heard anything about him since. Hope this helps Aragorn.
