Ireland is in seriou diffs, due to the government bailing out the banks and the developers.
So an austerity budget has been introduced; wages, welfare, pensions all slashed. Yet, in the midst of this carnage, stud fees remain tax-free.
This is totally unfair; yet again the fat-cats get away with the loot.December 8, 2010 at 16:20 #331621Blimey, is that still true after yesterday’s budget?
If so it’s presumably because they regard the competitive edge that VAT exemption allows is as crucial to the Irish economy as maintaining corporation tax at a European-low rate.
An amoeba sits next to that big, bull elephant in the room
December 8, 2010 at 16:55 #331623I am certain that tax exemptions on stud fee’s where removed in either last years budget or the year before. I believe that that the Tax on Stud fee’s was the main reason why irish broodmare and stallion reduced significantly in the past few years and were sent to France instead.
I am certain but i may be wrong mind you..but i do remember tax fee’s being introduced on all stallion’s.
December 8, 2010 at 17:23 #331629The exemption ended on August 1st 2008. Stallion income is now taxed at the corporate rate of 12.5%. The European Commission deemed it as state aid which is not allowed under EU law(unless you work in a bank).
By way of compensation stallion purchases can be written off against tax over a 4 year period.
