TorkinkingNovember 26, 2007 at 14:39 #127192Katchit for me on saturday – though he isn’t my idea of the 2008 Champion Hurdle winner.

November 26, 2007 at 14:56 #127194I can see this race cutting up quite badly.
Another 4 ot 5 runner race perhaps?
Mike
November 26, 2007 at 15:16 #127198I’d reckon it’s sure to cut up, Mike. As myself and Grasshopper mentioned on a previous thread, there seems little reason for the Irish contingent to try to land pots over here if equivalent pots are available at home. The "Fighting Fifth" is only worth as much as the Morgiana, for example, and obviously rather harder to get to.,
To that end, and with the additional evidence of there having been only three Irish runners in the race in the last 20 years, I’d regard the appearance of all the raiders from over there in the 5-day decs as tentative at best. Harchibald would rate the likeliest one to show up on the day (as he did successfully once before), but only granted a sound enough surface.

November 26, 2007 at 15:20 #127199I would be surprised if nearly all the Irish horses didnt turn up. Clopf and the Meade duo are certain runners (ground permitting for Harchibald).
November 26, 2007 at 15:27 #127201To follow on from graysons point, of the 5 Irish-trained horses currently in the Fighting Fifth, Clopf, Ebaziyan, & Jazz Messenger are all entered in the Hattons Grace Hdl which is to be run this Sunday at Fairyhouse. Last year this was worth £44,827 to the winner while the Fighting Fifth was worth £45,072. There is the matter of the WBX £1m bonus though for winning the Fighting Fifth, Christmas Hdl at Kempton and then the Champion Hdl in March though.
November 26, 2007 at 15:45 #127209Thanks for the list.
Im sure i read that connections were aiming him back at the Fighting Fifth.
Oh well.
November 26, 2007 at 16:55 #127223I thought Straw Bear was going novice chasing?
November 27, 2007 at 08:15 #127333John Quinn has Blyth Knight in this. If he works as well tomorrow as he did the other day the Irish would be as well staying at home

Wouldn’t be surprised if he did win this, Group/Grade winner under both codes, can’t see him winning the Champion, but anything else yes. Really talented horse, pity there aren’t more like him and his connections willing to go jumping.

Yes David, but 2 miles on good ground is far more likely to suit all three than 2 1/2 miles on what is likely to be soft ground..
Ebaziyan doesn’t run in the Fighting Fifth..
November 28, 2007 at 00:22 #127517Can’t see the conditions playing to the strengths of Blythe Knight. He improved dramatically given a sound surface at Aintree. He strikes me as the sort of horse to run a mighty race in the Champion Hurdle on good ground at around 40/1 when the general consensus is that he’s been shown up as being not good enough earlier in the season on testing conditions.
Can’t decide whether to lay Katchit for the Champion before or after the race. Any advice?
November 28, 2007 at 00:26 #127519DJ, if I were you I’d be forgetting the CH for now and be laying him for the Fighting Fifth! IMO 6/4 is a ridiculously short price.
November 28, 2007 at 03:29 #127527He’s not exactly done much wrong Friggo. I have bet Blythe Knight and he is well but Katchit scares the hell out of me hence I bet BK ew. I wouldn’t lay the fav he’s not exactly a bad horse having won more races than most would win in 7 seasons.
Been a long time since a Triumph winner won the champion and lets face it what’s to beat…….Don’t think we will be seeing a repeat of last year. Sub just not the type to win another IMO
And David it’s a long time since anyone offered 40/1 about Blythe Knight I was on early just for an interest and could only get 33’s (small bet with Kauto makes a big payout)
Ya never know!!November 28, 2007 at 10:39 #127569You’re right that he’s done nothing wrong, but it’s all been in juvenile company. I don’t think that justifies being as short as 6/4 when horses of the class of Jazz Messenger, Harchibald, Blythe Knight, Clopf & Al Eile are in the field.
November 28, 2007 at 21:02 #127691Straw bear goes for the boylesports. Looks like he’ll only go chasing if the hurdling goes horribly wrong.
