We love to gamble on the horses, but who else likes to gamble on the stocks?

Of course I do, only human after all. Currently I own FCX (freeport McMoran), TRQ (turquoise Hill) – both copper mining companies and Twitter – purely because Elon just bought a 9% share and is trying to buy the whole company – and most things Elon touches turn to gold – for ‘hypes’ sake if nothing else.

Copper is supposedly only going to rise in demand, it is used for all electronic car batteries and all electronic car charging points, the use of which will only rise in the coming (next 2-5) years. There is also expected to be a copper shortage, I believe (and I’m drunk as a skunk right now so don’t treat this as gospel) that a lot of copper on the market is recycled and that the copper required for Electronic vehicle batteries and Charging stations has to be new copper. In short the need for copper is growing and will continue to grow enormously over the next 5 years and the means to mine said copper won’t improve at the required rate, causing the Copper price to rise substantially over the coming years.

It won’t make you rich overnight, but copper stocks will certainly be more profitable than leaving your money in the bank over the coming years.

Anyone else own any stocks? If so which industries and why?

DKNG (Draftkings) is one I want to buy but the current market looks slightly volatile so I’m holding off at present – they are predominately a ‘fantasy’ sports company that is slowly transitioning to the sports betting market. Sports gambling is slowly becoming legalised and legislated across more States in the US and surely the sector will have an enormous boom in the coming years. Think how much money paddypower/WilliamHill etc make, now imagine those in the market of the US, the potential is absolutely astronomical.

Yeah this year is dodgy to say the least. Things were looking bad as it was before the russia ukraine spat.
Big inflation fears in the US and uncertainty regarding who invested in Evergrande and the other Chinese property firms who overborrowed.
The feeling is the USA kicked the can down the road re inflation for a later day. So maybe later in the yearor next we see a hit.
Evergrande got an extension but the amount they owe is very big. A mini subprime could be on the cards especially if some western banks have got involved. Rumours are its Thether he crypto stable coin. So could be a big crypt crash.
    PS…im only in NFTs.
More volatile than sticks but less volatile than gambling.
    This time next year rodney……

BAE will have to be a careful balancing act. If the war looks like escalating a bit then it may moon. But this also brings humanity closer to extinction. We aint taking our bags with us when we go lol.

Ben I hope you made it back from Mars. It’s highly interesting but in the 20 odd years I have been participating on these fora – yours is the first thread I have seen highlighting stocks. I don’t know why that is, and it’s a head scratcher because picking winning stocks and the winner of the Greenham demand a similar skill set.
I wrote on the financial markets fora for four years when I hung my boots up in here not that long ago. I was able to move a stock up with a positive recommendation. Many asked my advice. I was immersed in it totally.
I had large gains on coffee many years ago and some standout companies I picked early did very well for me. My difficulty was selling at the right time, and I was a little too emotional – I could buy all right but ditching the baby once it had gorn off was more difficult. More recently I lost a shed load by putting all my liquid eggs in one basket one particular AIM company it would pain me to mention.
I would be careful of the alternative investment market despite the attraction of the lack of capital gains tax and spread your risk.
As you are into space travel you might consider this…Boeing are into developing air taxis.

‘One option investors have is investing in an ETF. Procure Space ETF (UFO), a space-related exchange traded fund, launched back in April 2019. The fund includes holdings in space stocks like Boeing, Maxar (MAXR), Iridium Communications (IRDM), Intelsat (I) and Airbus (EADSY).’

I haven’t a penny invested in stocks or crypto but could talk about them until the cows come home. ETF(UFO) has made no real progress since it was started just over five years ago. A European fund is to be launched in June. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is still private. Satellite demand is high but would steer clear of anything like this until 2026 and reassess.
I have little appetite for risk these days.
I would point out that my ability to move markets was only in the share I lost on. I was writing on LSE and gamble unfortunately had a lot to say as well under a different name.
As for Ben being in Mars – he might have been in a bar – but certainly not in space. gamble gets more carried away these days and I have even had to clear up his mess in the real world.

I’ve heard a few people saying this too Input, sounds like there is genuine fear of a proper crash next year, as always it’ll be the little guy like us who’s the last to find out about it.

I tried to buy some Crypto the other day – MANA to be precise, I don’t really know anything about crypto’s as my IT knowledge just isn’t up to scratch, just feels like MANA is the type of coin that has the potential for real growth with the way the world is shifting to virtual reality/metaverse worlds. I say I tried to buy them, my bank kept blocking the transactions, tried Coinbase, Kraken and Etoro but my bank declined all of them, they’ve got no problem letting me deposit on Skybet though lol.

Smoking the last of my herbal cigarettes tonight before knocking it on the head for a few weeks to concentrate on studies, so at present it could well be said that I am in fact even higher than Mars.

LOL I actually got into this game a year or two ago, loved it but had to stop playing because it became almost impossible to improve without spending real money. It was a good laugh when sat on the train though.

Yeah Ben. Some banks seem to be blocking. But with Kraken there is an option to pay via payward..fast payments. Payward are a subsidiary of Kraken who are regulated. No reason for banks to be blocking regulated services , as you say you can deposit to a bookies
Yeah i played the original HRM. Was quite good but really grindy. This new one is gonna have breeding stud fees / foals, sales , claimers etc..I shifted all my crypto investments (as they were falling during the crash lol) into this. Lets see how it goes .

Gamble. You clued up on the space mining ? This could be an interesting area right?

Cheers I’ll give that Payward a go, do you hold any cryptos at the moment?

Did you ever play Starters Orders? Was basically football manager but for horse racing, used to love it but they’ve made it too complicated now for my liking with all the breeding/sales stuff so I don’t play it any more.

Space mining has to be the future, SpaceX surely perfectly positioned to profit once it’s a thing in a few decades time, shame they’re private!

The world ba ba bank forecasts world output dropping by 25% this year – it’s a huge number and the war in Ukraine is a contributor. Forget space mining look at Rio Tinto and the big mining Mexican company they are sisters doing it for themselves and good reason for keeping your feet on terra firma. Commodities particularly iron ore is in terrific demand. :bye:

Xi would understand the Ian Davies philosophy, Putin less so. Let’s remind ourselves of it: One child, one biscuit, one coffee, few people = relative happiness. Two children two biscuits two coffees, a crowd = relative misery.

Funny you say Rio Tinto Gamble, TRQ the company I mentioned in my first post have just struck a deal with them regarding a mine in Mongolia, its seen TRQs price per share go from £10 to £30 over the past 6 months.

From an article – “Rio Tinto Copper Chief Executive Bold Baatar said “This agreement and alignment with TRQ represents a major milestone in the continued development of Oyu Tolgoi, which is expected to become one of the world’s largest copper mines and a significant contributor to the Mongolian economy for years to come.”
