Not hot off the press, but I don’t see it mentioned here, and it should be: https://www.rte.ie/sport/racing/2021/0603/1225932-galway-trainer-banned-for-four-years-for-neglect/
We are very quick to point the finger at the situation in the US, but on our own doorstep and behind closed doors, this is happening. That he only got a ban beggars belief. Good old IHRB.

Horrendous. Starving horses and a horse entered to run that week having to be put down it was so injured? Shameful, and a life ban would be more suitable.

How is that “not cruelty” according to the IHRB? Are there any criminal charges, as there would be if it was the RSPCA investigating a house of mistreated dogs?

Absolutely horrific, and the details of the 2008 case I read in another article had me in tears.

All round bad egg that one. Tracy Piggott should’ve borrowed Arlene Foster’s lawyer.

Thanks for drawing attention to this Louise12. The IHRB’s penalty is incredibly weak given that it’s not even a first offence. Apparently he is appealing it too!

A warning in advance that the following description is quite graphic, but this is what the Racing Post has said about his previous conviction:
In 2008, he had his licence suspended for four months and was fined €1,000 after Pike Bridge was found to have been neglected to such an extent that she had eaten at her own legs, rendering her unable to stand and causing her to lie down for 12 weeks before being put down.

So the previous sentence was pathetic too. There is simply no excuse here; this man should not be allowed to continue to work in the industry in any capacity.
