Did anyone see the start of the 5f apprentice race. Due to the stall handlers being stuck in traffic they raced from a flip start.
The horse Iggy was facing side ways away from the other horses before the tapes went down, and as they did he did a full circle with it’s rider attempting a game of buckaroo, it did not particularly appear he was ever under sufficient orders. To add injury to insult he was the 5/2 favourite! An absolute shambles I can not believe no one flagged a false start or even the horse was declared a runner, complete and utter contempt for punters how this was allowed to stand.
Stewards report
The Stewards held an enquiry into concerns raised by Nathan Evans, the rider of IGGY, unplaced, regarding the start afforded to his mount. They interviewed the rider and the Starter. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the start, the Stewards noted that IGGY had been unruly and reluctant to line up, but were satisfied that the gelding had come under orders and whipped around simultaneously as the flag was dropped and starting tape released, resulting in him losing a considerable amount of ground.
It is an unusual circumstance to have to flip start, granted, but what a t*ts up.
July 4, 2015 at 20:14 #1122333There was a couple of stall handlers down there, surely they could have managed. Most of the runners would have gone in on their own, only 7 runners too, poor show all round.
July 4, 2015 at 20:21 #1122334Absolutely, the favourite must have been 15 lengths behind the front pace setters by the time he got going from the start. How on earth he could be declared a runner is beyond me.
Never a dull moment at Haydock!

Maybe they are not allowed to, it is a huge animal which can kick out and knock a starter out and they have to have a certain number, after all it’s not just loading they have to set the stalls up, make sure the electrics are working etc.
It’s not just putting a horse in a slot and off you go.
