Robin Dickin had a horse called Kadstrof who only had one ball. Just like Adolf Hitler. The other was in the Royal Albert Hall.
January 4, 2022 at 13:20 #1576511Agree with your comments AndyRAC. As the recent ITV viewing figures show, the Jumps remains very popular, but it seems to always end up being the poor relation of the Flat. It’s frustrating that both the authorities and the broadcasters seem much happier to chuck money at new initiatives for the Flat e.g. the Sunday Series and the Racing League.
January 4, 2022 at 13:38 #1576515Mister Lord and Aristocracy are two more for the list. The other issue with stallions and jumping is how little a lot of trainers use their heads. Mrs Reveley said that Supreme Leaders were better hurdlers than chasers, and yet other trainers saw big imposing types and thought ‘chaser’. Mrs R. was right, and you can add other stallions to the list, most of whom stand/stood in a major stud and produce thousands of offspring – around half of those then go on to be the broodmares covered by Mogul etc. If they got black type in a bumper along the way, they are cast iron ‘jumping’ broodmares. What could possibly go wrong?
January 8, 2022 at 20:53 #1577169Constitution Hill’s sire Lord Bresil is a shocking omission, imo.
After all he was only a three parts of a length second behind a horse called Long Run back in 2009.
January 9, 2022 at 15:25 #1577260Interesting point about the growth plates, especially as there’s a lot of advice about it concerning dogs ie people being advised not to have their dogs castrated or spays because it affects their physical development. And interesting to read about Neptune Collonges, who was a bull of a horses (however he did have time off with tendon trouble at one point if my memory is correct). Then again mares seem to be as much, if not more so prone to injury as geldings, so I guess that scuppers that argument.
January 9, 2022 at 23:29 #1577318RubyLight, Constitution Hill’s sire is Blue Bresil, not Lord Bresil 🙂 He is on the list on page 1.
Royal Pagaille appears to be his top-rated performer in the UK to date.
January 10, 2022 at 09:34 #1577345Add also Kadir Cup, who was initially registered as Diving Suit, he raced until he was eleven years old. He was trained by Harry Peacock and eventually was with Fulke Walwyn. He was a long standing HIS stallion foaling hunters and show horses as well as runners in NH rules.
January 10, 2022 at 11:20 #1577361Interesting addition Crepello. From the extinct(?) sireline of Chaucer that had a big influence on 21st century jumping; including Domaha (Knock Hard, Dormant and Dunkirk), Menelek (Rag Trade and Hallo Dandy) and Raise You Ten (Ten Up and Twin Oaks). He also sired Kerlor who finished second in the French Champion Hurdle at four ahead of becoming a sire so he can also be added to the list…

YaheebJanuary 10, 2022 at 11:56 #1577365Who could forget Toirdealbhach? Seem to recall him running over fences as a 13 year old.
January 10, 2022 at 15:59 #1577407Toirdealbhach has now been added to the list 🙂 Which is now getting a bit silly… Especially seeing as most of the early French Champion Hurdle winners went to stud;-
Royal Falcon, winner of the 1929 Champion Hurdle does have offspring on Pedigree Query but I haven’t been able to cross check them on Weatherbys and I can’t find any other sources on the matter.
January 10, 2022 at 21:15 #1577451Said on Facebook today that Khan, who won at Ludlow today is a stallion and has been retired to stud ( don’t know if it’s true).
January 10, 2022 at 21:44 #1577455Good spot moehat. Earlier in this thread I was lamenting that Group class horses rarely go hurdling any more, and then a Group 1 winner comes in at Ludlow today! The Racing Post race report says he is off to stud in France.
January 11, 2022 at 11:10 #1577481Yes, winner of the Gp 1 Preis Von Europa at Cologne (Koln) over 1m4f in 2018 and on soft ground!
I did raise a wry smile when I heard he was off to stud in France…..A Gp 1 winner on the flat, and has won over hurdles…..almost the perfect NH stallion.
January 18, 2022 at 19:11 #1578641As a sort of side note to the Racing Post reporting that In This World has picked up an injury and won’t run again this season, they mention that the horse remains entire with the aim of retiring to stud one day. It might just be catching on…
Let’s hope he makes a good recovery and is able to fulfill his potential, before they send him off to his next career.
Edit: I see now he’s been listed already (I swear I read the thread, honest
) but good to see it mentioned in the press too.
January 18, 2022 at 22:56 #1578668Don’t think I’ve seen Sula Bula mentioned.
Am sure I remember him in the 1980’s winning a few over fences before going on to stud.Value Is Everything -
