The French do it right, racing entires over jumps, and sending them to stud. I’m pretty sure not one of the Coolmore NH sires have won a single race over jumps……

Owners of mares seduced by the big name Flat horses used as stallions. When it was announced Honeysuckle was to visit WITP, I just sighed in despair…..no imagination at all.

I think you’re right about Coolmore “jumps” sires Andy. Not sure what qualifies any of them other than the ability to stay a mile and a half or further. Some weren’t even known for soundness or resilience.

British and Irish trainers seem to struggle with older entires, even on the flat. I have noticed that 6 or 7 year old entires are not unusual in Japanese racing whereas they are very rare here, unless they have won a group 1. Not sure if it’s laziness (certainly geldings are easier to deal with) or just that “it’s the way it’s always been”. It certainly stops a lot of potentially beneficial late-maturing talent reaching the gene pool. Always bewildered by the treatment of Solo, a successful French import with a good pedigree who won a G2 hurdle on his UK debut but was gelded as soon as he was beaten in the Triumph Hurdle.

I am grateful for the update on Midnight’s Legacy as I was also following his story. I hope he gets the support he deserves.

The much missed Fame And Glory. Youngest crop now 7yo. It’s been an excellent six years since his first winner under NH rules in March 2018.

His Festival record is up and down and Aintree hasn’t been a happy hunting ground thus far.

CHELTENHAM – 42 runs (31 races) – 3 wins (Stage Star, Commander Of Fleet, The Nice Guy) – 8 places

    AINTREE – 23 runs (17 races) – 0 wins – 5 places

PUNCHESTOWN – 59 runs (41 races) – 8 wins (Commander of Fleet, Foxy Jacks, The Nice Guy, Kalum River, Ambitious Fellow, Tag Man, Green Glory, Sandor Clegane) – 8 places

This season has been an excellent one. 90 wins from 586 runs. Had you backed every single one (win or ew) then you’d have a very healthy profit thanks to winners like Jay Jay Reilly at the weekend. He’s also had 110 placed meaning that he has a win and place strike rate of 34%, which is above average.

He really was a good one.

Honeysuckle’s owner must follow this page as she’s off to Blue Bresil next!

Walk in the Park was actually tried over hurdles albeit well beaten. It’s as well he wasn’t racing 10 years later than he was, or he would probably have had his balls chopped off after failing to win a Flat G1 and been sold to Australia.

For the same reason, it’s as well Blue Bresil was French owned and trained.

Indeed. Real test would be if a son of one of these great mares (Honeysuckle, Annie Power, Quevega…) survives his racing career intact. Sadly, as you suggest, the fact that none are likely to be exported to France, makes it unlikely.

There are a few that survive the cut after export to OZ Greengrass . Only a few though , Mirage Dancer , Masked Marvel and Jet Away a few that went OZ and returned to Europe as NH Stallions .
Midterm one best bred exports of past 5 or 6 years was sadly gelded though .
