    Update On Coolmore website today:

    "St Nicholas Abbey update

While still having a guarded prognosis St Nicholas Abbey has had his best week since his initial surgery!

Since the pin removal his weight bearing on the injured leg has improved gradually and he is walking as well as can be expected with a cast.

St Nicholas Abbey seems more content, lying down several times a night to rest and his appetite is excellent so he is starting to thrive.

His temperature has stabilised and blood work has normalised.

Surgeons Dr Kelly & Dr O’Brien are more upbeat on his prognosis however there are many weeks to go before St Nicholas Abbey is out of danger."

Another positive update about St Nicholas Abbey on the Coolmore website today:

    "St Nicholas Abbey update
    (30th September 2013)

The surgeons at Fethard Equine Hospital couldn’t be happier with St Nicholas Abbey’s progress to date.

Recently fitted with a lighter and less restrictive cast, he is more mobile and is putting more confident weight on the injured leg.

St Nicholas Abbey’s appetite is good and he continues to gain weight. His blood work remains stable and his medication has been much reduced."

Let’s hope that regular good news keeps coming. It is so heartening to see these bulletins from time to time, all pointing in a postive direction.

Such a shame as he at last seemed to be on the road to complete recovery. RP’s article:

Absolutely heartbreaking. That poor horse went through the mill but fought like a lion to the end.

    His beautiful soul lives on.

He fought the good fight. He finished the course. My favorite horse. His win in the Racing Post Trophy will remain in my memory. The turn of foot which he showed that day was brilliant.
A brave horse, he earned and deserved an old age at Coolmore.

I will always remember him when I hear that song Nathan, what a beautiful tribute, tears streaming down my face now
So brave and courageous, a horse who never knew when to give up, he will be sadly missed.

Run free with Gorgeous George when you meet up.

    This is for you:

‘Swift as a bird I flew down many a course,
Princes, Lords, Commoners all sang my praise.
In victory or defeat I played my part.
Remember me, all men who love the Horse,
    If hearts and spirits flag in after days;
Though small, I gave my all. I gave my heart.’

Absolutely devastated to read this news, especially after the positive report this weekend on C4. Such a beautiful and brave horse whose intelligence shone through. Im in shock and disbelief so God knows how his connections feel. Totally gutted and distraught.
