Against my better judgement, I’ve just backed Flying Honours at 12/1 – his full brother is a 1m6f winner, he’s not a colt who does anything in a hurry and he’s probably done well to win three races as a 2yo as he will surely be better next year.

Who’d heard of Eldar Eldarov this time last year. ;o)

Insane more like.
Win only too, Mike – what am I like?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 5, 2023 at 06:44 #1646573If Auguste Rodin wins the 2000 Guineas tomorrow, I think we can be certain he will be heading to Epsom on the first Saturday in June.
If he wins the Derby, I think there is a very good chance he will be running at Town Moor in September. That is what happened with Camelot.
OK, that is quite a few “ifs”. But I have taken 7/1 against Auguste Rodin for the St Leger, just in case.
May 5, 2023 at 13:06 #1646588I’m not sure even running in – let alone winning – the St Leger would do much for a 2,000 Guineas/Derby winner’s stud value.
I reckon they only took that route with Camelot to swerve Frankel.
That said, connections are knocking on a bit now, there’s a (remote) chance it isn’t solely about money with them any more and they’d like a Triple Crown winner.
Flying Honours crucified Yibir in a racecourse gallop this morning so my dreams of a Derby/St Leger double pick up with him at 25/1 and 12/1 is back on.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 13, 2023 at 16:27 #1647706Military Order ran a good Derby trial but I thought it was an even better St Leger trial. He looks like a very strong stayer.
Added him at 8/1.
June 2, 2023 at 16:44 #1649948Maybe the ground went against her in the Oaks but to my mind Savethelastdance did not like the track and looked like she needed further than 1m 4f.
Could this be the race for her? A more galloping track, better ground, an extra 2.5 furlongs and in receipt of the allowance?
Took 14/1.
June 2, 2023 at 16:53 #1649955Pace of the race probably Cork. Miles slower than the Coronation Cup
June 2, 2023 at 17:05 #1649963Dubai Mile @ 20’s
Seems as good a time as any and reckon a top 5 finish in the Derby would be a decent run with this in mind.
June 2, 2023 at 23:32 #1650025I had similar thoughts about SAvethelastdance, Cav.
Connections do though have many more St Leger types than anyone else and may rather win it with a colt.Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2023 at 07:05 #1650088I had that thought too, Ginger. But the St Leger is not as important as the Derby to Coolmore.
To my mind, the filly is not going to win an open Group 1 over 10 furlongs because she does not have the pace. She looks better suited to a step up in distance. If she runs here in receipt of the allowance, she would have a better chance than her current price.
I expect the race that will most suit her is the filly and mare Group 1 at Ascot in October. 1m 4f on a stiff track on soft ground looks her ideal conditions.
June 3, 2023 at 07:12 #1650090I read CAS’s original post and thought: “Not a bad shout, I’ll just wait and see if anything is staying on at the end of The Derby today before getting involved.”
But then I look at this Derby field and see more runners likely to get beat because they don’t stay then because they need further.
The St Leger is, if anything detrimental to stud value nowadays – marks a colt as a NH sire at a much-reduced fee, in fact.
It would make a lot of sense to aim this filly at it, and 14/1 could prove big, especially as the old “Classic fillies better than the colts?” talking point might rear its head if nothing wins The Derby decisively this afternoon.

June 3, 2023 at 14:02 #1650227Pleasantly surprised to see I could cash out my Auguste Rodin bet for a very modest profit. I think he would win it if he lined up but there must be very little chance of him lining up on Town Moor.
He probably would have done if he had won the Guineas.
June 3, 2023 at 14:10 #1650237I doubt The Derby winner will run – a race over 1m2f at some stage is more likely.
CAS’s Savethelastdance bet looks alright to me.
On pedigree, I’d be a bit surprised if White Birch stayed the St Leger trip tbh.

June 3, 2023 at 14:35 #1650254Mike’s aboard CAS’s 14/1 Savethelastdance Bus to Doncaster – can’t possibly get beat now!
To Town Moor!
