Returned home this evening to view the first Racing Review on the new channel.
Hoping for the best, but expecting to be disappointed and proved to be the latter.
Two slots in the schedule, but just a repeat at 10.15. That approach is not going to retain viewers.
Why not Southwell at 9.15 and Fakenham (in full) at 10.15? Tomorrow, will they just have highlights of today’s 3 meetings and repeat it again at 10.15?Two ad breaks in each slot further reducing the time available.
No betting graphics at all and only tiny sp graphics. The live coverage utilises full screen graphics (sometimes) so why not use them?
Compared to the RTV Racing Replay this is really poor.
Will now have to resort to splicing together live and review race footage to create the DVDs to add to the 32+ year video library!
Betting graphics in the live coverage are a bit Mickey Mouse and don’t have the ability to show the market trends within the field as the ATR graphics did. Also, not a fan of displaying the betting graphics when the side panels are on screen.
On the plus side, the side panels are withdrawn well before the start of the race, which is an improvement on ATR. The super slow motion on the winning line is welcome, but probably only needed in a close finish.
Generally underwhelmed.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
January 27, 2019 at 14:51 #1393957The fall of Nuts Well in the 1.55 at Doncaster was edited out of the “Review” on SSR. The horse seemed to get up fine and gallop away, so unless it was subsequently found to be injured why was this necessary?
Admittedly it was a horror fall, but have we now got to the stage when replays can not be shown if the fall “looks bad”.
It is noticeable now, during the live broadcasts, the desperation of the camera operators to get a fallen horse out of shot, just in case it may have suffered an injury. This must be a directive from the racing authorities to try and minimise any hysteria on social media. Maybe this now applies to all subsequent replays.
