Fell in the 2.00 Cheltenham and suffered a fatal injury. Confirmed on ITV Racing 😢
March 13, 2025 at 14:29 #1723461Oh, this is too sad. I thought we were quite lucky in the first two days, but hoped this could go on till the last race.
Rest in peace Springwell Bay
March 13, 2025 at 14:30 #1723463Awful fall bringing down What’s Up Darling who got up OK … his first ever fall … so sad …
March 13, 2025 at 15:41 #1723524So sorry to hear this. I saw What’s Up Darling trot in after the race but hoped the other horse might be getting walked back. RIP Springwell Bay.
March 13, 2025 at 17:56 #1723594He was so adored by his handler and thoughts are with all connections on this saddest of days. Like Ruby was really hoping we might get through today and tomorrow without any losses.
RIP Springwell Bay 🌹
😪Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 13, 2025 at 19:58 #1723622A sad sight. Condolences to his connections.
I suppose it was inevitable that a few of the national papers have picked up on it and so has the animal rights crowd on social media.
March 13, 2025 at 20:06 #1723625Damn them. They really want this to happen, don’t they. Despicable.
March 13, 2025 at 20:19 #1723632Iam not sure they want it to happen , they want to ban racing so they will amplify the bad news . The facts are the facts ,some horses die while racing , racing does a reasonable job to promoting they care, and do a good job on safety I think , so both sides promote their cause . My view is 99 per cent of anti racing people are prety decent people , they just want racing banned , thats their view , we just differ in opinion .
March 14, 2025 at 00:33 #1723676Not much I can add, so sad that this kind of accident happens. Like Helcatmudwrestler says people in the industry do all they can for the equine mates, whether its Gold Cup winners or horses struggling to win a seller at Southwell for instance.
Yes these Animal Rights people want to ban racing, by picking up on races like The National and Cheltenham, the are also fatalities on the flat too. But that’s only part of their cause, they also want us to be vegans (nothing wrong in being vegan, but it should be a choice not rammed down our throats.) Plus stop owning pets. At least that’s the view I’ve come to hear.
Let’s not forget in racing the jockeys too risk their lives like Michael O’Sullivan.
Anyway R.I.P. Springwell Bay (hope you didn’t suffer.)
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
