Mike,
I fear the Crabbies marketing men will be very unhappy that their sponsorship hasn’t made the right impression – they don’t do Cider, just Ginger Beer.
The company is actually Halewood International who owned the National winner Amberleigh House, and Crabbies is one of their brand names.

Blimey, there we go. Have Julian, Dick, George, Anne and Timmy the dog been informed?

December 1, 2015 at 08:57 #1223976Yep, it’s all documented in their latest adventure, Five Get Bladdered on Ladies Day.
December 1, 2015 at 15:38 #1224209…and in its sequel, Five Have Crabbies The Morning After
December 8, 2015 at 21:53 #1225120Well that didn’t take long, the Gold Cup has a new sponsor.
IT company Timico taking over for the next four years. Twenty five grand boost in prize money to boot.
Nice one.
Fred who?
December 10, 2015 at 09:08 #1225205Oh Dear! – Cracks already forming and pretty big ones at that, York not joining in and to a lesser extent Leicester. Maybe Fred will take some of his money to York and keep the rest in his pocket.
December 10, 2015 at 14:32 #1225230Not only is York not joining in, they’ve added protection for their current ABPs – probably unintentionally, in an effort to please two sides.
They’re allowing current non-ABPs to remain as sponsors, but barring any new sponsorship from non ABPs. Now, Fred’s people must have come out of that ‘negotiating’ session with large smiles and a deep degree of wonderment at the supposed commercial skills of the York team.
They’ve gone in expecting a tough time and come out with the knowledge that not only are they to keep their current sponsorship portfolio, but it’s to be ring-fenced from competition from their rivals!
Be thankful the York people weren’t on the West’s side for the Bay of Pigs
December 10, 2015 at 21:14 #1225277“York welcomes both the positive action already taken by some digital bookmakers to sign up as ABPs, as well as the support York receives through the strong, longstanding partnerships that already exist with bookmakers who sponsor at York. As agreements for 2016 are already in place, there are no renewals pending with non-ABP bookmakers.”
I wouldn’t read that as a commitment to any non ABP bookmaker, beyond what’s already in place for 2016.
32Red to sponsor 45 meetings at Kempton in 2016. Good stuff.
Be glad to see the back of Fred Done, if he doesn’t want to pay up. “Bled Dry” my arse.
December 10, 2015 at 21:20 #1225279Charlie Brooks saw the future at Kempton the other night.
Nice one, Charlie.
February 8, 2016 at 10:42 #1232794Bookmakers set for talks…
February 8, 2016 at 18:11 #1232833It was stated on RUK today that James Reveley has earned more prize money in France this season than Richard Johnson has in the UK. Says it all really.

Ryanair in.O’Leary, “… remain wholly supportive of the Jockey Club’s stance with regard to Authorised Betting Partners which has led to this race becoming available for sponsorship this year.”
Nice one, Michael.

At last it looks like racing’s collective gloves are starting to come off – a clear message to bookmakers that their easy ride on the back of racing is coming to an end.
Had it too easy for too long paying under the odds contributions whilst sucking the industry dry. There are plenty of companies out there looking to come into the sponsorship side, it just means the marketing people have to work a little harding to bring them in rather than going to a fall back position with bookies.

Oh dear, does that mean we won’t be treated to another hilarious bike ride around the northern racing communities with the ever-likeable Shinners?
February 19, 2016 at 06:24 #1234269Bet ABP
Unfortunately not feasible with bookmakers, whether ABP or not unwilling to lay bets, unless you are a loser.
Betfair Sportsbook & Bet 365 are two of the worst culprits.I would advise punters to get the best possible odds they can whether ABP or not.
Now if we had a Tote/Exchange monopoly for the sole benefit of racing it would be a different matter.
February 19, 2016 at 08:11 #1234290BetVictor has now joined the list of ABP bookies. Fair play to RUK.
February 19, 2016 at 11:54 #1234311Threats to bar bookie reps from press room and parade ring should help
