Godolphin’s Sovereignty made history last night by winning the Travers Stakes in Saratoga by 10 lengths..having previously won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, making him the 5th horse ever to achieve this.
Well done Sovereignty and his jockey Junior Alvarado 🏇 👏
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 24, 2025 at 09:25 #1738867Seems the right decision to skip the Preakness. Makes me wonder why they don’t space out the Triple Crown races more, I understand the close turnarounds makes it a real test but it seems the trend is to now skip the middle race and go to the Belmont.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 25, 2025 at 16:29 #1738928Unless the horse wasn’t right (be it injury or not recovered from the Kentucky Derby run), I don’t understand the decision to miss the Preakness and the simple answer is that we will never really know if ultimately it was the right decision or not….connections will clearly say it was because he won the Belmont but there is no evidence to suggest that he couldn’t have won the Preakness and still followed up in the Belmont as he clearly is the best 3yr old in the US and in many people’s eyes there will always be a but when discussing this horse as possibly being not only a Triple Crown winner but an all time great……especially if he subsequently goes on to win the BC Classic.
That being said, if at the end of the day connections are comfortable with the decision they made then more power to them for being brave enough to do it.
August 26, 2025 at 15:16 #1738962With the Belmont being run at Saratoga over a shorter trip of 1m2f. I thought they possibly skipped the triple crown attempt as some would’ve said it wasn’t the true triple crown anyway so why waste the horse.
