Looks like 3 have been lost – Gallik Dawn and Braddock Island with leg injuries and Cydonia collapsed after finishing. All very sad – Gallik Dawn a veteran 14 years old; Braddock Island bowling along in front when disaster happened (bred, owned and trained by Mrs S Sunter); Cydonia only 5 years old. RIP all three of you.
June 13, 2012 at 09:32 #407934Just watched the replay and saw poor Braddock Island going wrong, but didn’t know about the other two. RIP, every one.

June 13, 2012 at 12:10 #407959Cydonia is sadly gone-looked like a heart attack after the race, stable girl was devastated. Gallik Dawn walked into the horse ambulance and not the dreaded other one, and we saw it return to the racecourse stables and walk out, which may or may not be good news. Braddock Island pulled up sharply, and looked terrible, but after randomly being wierdly unsound on its back end, eventually started to walk ok again, and it could have been a fit, or back spasm, but he did not enter either horse ambulance or other, and walked back to stables, so we hope he is ok. Hope this is useful info, as can only say what we saw in person last night.
June 13, 2012 at 12:58 #407967Thanks for that info Wetnoses, keeping fingers crossed for the two horses concerned.
June 13, 2012 at 13:35 #407975Trainer confirms that Braddock Island is fine, he has been out in his field grazing for a couple of hours today. Her vet is at a loss to explain what happened to him, maybe a muscle spasm or a trapped nerve, but he certainly recovered and was ‘pulling her husband’s arms out as usual on the way back to the stables’. Great news, I think!
June 13, 2012 at 15:04 #407987Braddock Island pulled up fairly sharpishly last time out at Wetherby so something doesn’t seem quite right with him, good to hear he appears ok.
June 13, 2012 at 15:46 #407990Hi Grey Desire, In the light of what you say it does seem that there might be an underlying problem. Let’s hope the trainer can sort him out before his next run. Best wishes Jo

Thanks for the update Wetnoses. So glad to hear the toll is not as large as first feared.

Glad to know from later posts that this was not as bad as it seemed. I hope they find what’s wrong with Braddock Island.
Strange that Gallik Dawn appears to have been retired at 12 in 2010, then brought out again at 14! Maybe he wasn’t happy with the pipe and slippers!
RIP young Cydonia. What a shame
