Been snowing for the last two hours here in Southwell. If you’re planning to come, the wind chill is making things very unpleasant – wear that stripey balaclava and scarf set your Aunt in Hastings knitted you for Christmas.

Expect slow going this afternoon – horses with a win on Standard to Slow could be worth looking at. Also, don’t expect many winners to come from behind – even in races with a pace bias. When the going is slow, the kickback is fearsome and even sandpit specialists find it daunting: Imagine being pelted with wet sand by your bullying cousin on the beach up at Skegness.

They’re inspecting for the Tweed Gathering tomorrow and it currently doesn’t look good. I do hope they run because I can’t cope with another all-bumper meeting (which are proving more popular than you might think.)

Bring an extra pound coin as it is now an inconvenient eleven quid to get in. And despite Derek Thompson’s zealous incantations yesterday, the course sweet shop is not even the best in Southwell now that the top fellow from Beverley and Redcar has passed it on.

One more thing before I set off, Oateslike. If you’re backing one of Kirsty Milkshake’s today, hand in your RSPCA membership beforehand. Her ride on Ace of Spies yesterday had grown men shaking their heads. No-one can ever tell me women are weaker in a finish after that brutal, Borelesque display. Contrast that with Rosie Jessop’s geisha-like finesse on the Prescott thing in the last – definitely one to keep an eye on.

Enjoy and best of luck. :D

Thanks, Maxilon. We’ve got one running in the seller and the slower the better for her so fingers crossed.

Thanks, Max. Needless to say, I only had a fiver on her! As no-one wanted her, you’ll probably see her again before long as Southwell is the only track she will run at now.

that result in the seller prevented the RFO’s Stuart Redding going thru the card there today (he had the 1-2 the other way around).

Very, very cold today here in Southwell, if you’re planning to travel. Real three layer and hip flask weather – which should suit you committed Tweedheads just fine. :D

First horsebox I saw (that oldie-but-goodie-system) at 9.40 travelling quietly down past the Prebends and Convents of Westgate was one or Mr Henderson’s, but I guess he’s got plenty of runners.
