Those of us from Langholm go on a bit about the Common Riding and for good reason, as days go it is unsurpassed.
One thing that connects Langholm with a town in Surrey is that on Saturday we pick the Common Riding Colours. It is done at Epsom, not by ballot or a quiz style competition, but by the simple process of being the colours carried by the Derby winner. Not the owners registered colours but the actual colours the horse carries so it will include any distinguishing coloured cap.
Thought all you anoraks would like to know that.

June 4, 2010 at 22:14 #298678I fancy Bullet Train and Ted Spread (which means they will likely finish tailed off and end up over hurdles or in a Mixed Open at Dingley). We’ve had Prince Kahled Abdullahs before so the Scarlet and light blue of Ted Spread would be nice especially as Red and dark Blue are the colours of Langholm Rugby Club.
To be honest, it does not matter as they will be worn with pride by many on the great day whatever they are.
