From the RP site:
“The Jessica Harrington-trained Alizarine finished first past the post in the 7f fillies’ maiden at Galway on Tuesday but has been disqualified after the horse could not be positively identified following the race. The 5-4 favourite Twinkle, who passed the post in second, has been promoted to first with Radiyka and Past Time filling the revised places.”
How does this work?
July 27, 2021 at 19:21 #1552217Mrs Harrington has apologised for running the wrong horse.
Wonder if she’ll apologise for running Alpine Star over the wrong trip the other day while she’s at it…
July 27, 2021 at 19:44 #1552246An awful lot of apologies coming out of Ireland recently…
July 27, 2021 at 20:23 #1552250I laid the favourite with Spreadex.
I got paid as a winner, he finishing 3rd.
90 minutes later, part of my winnings were clawed back!
Is this the norm?July 27, 2021 at 20:54 #1552255She,s said apparently that they are near identical…. I expect she,ll be getting a decent fine for this , aren’t they chipped to stop this thing happening ?
July 27, 2021 at 21:02 #1552257Maybe this isn’t the first time she couldn’t keep horses apart. A lot of them might look similar to each other, these won’t be the only ones.

Irish chips sometimes can be found in British abattoirs….
July 27, 2021 at 21:16 #1552260Why bother to have an identity check at the end of race, when it is too late if there is a problem, if you don’t also have one before the race? Surely it can’t be that difficult now microchipping exists?
July 27, 2021 at 21:16 #1552261You’d think the stable staff would be able to identify the horses they look after. Then again, AOB’s staff apparently couldn’t distinguish Snowfall from Mother Earth and they don’t even have the same markings.
July 27, 2021 at 21:34 #1552263Aob’s were stabled over here, by different staff and, during the pandemic. Not an excuse, but more of a plausible reason.
Mistake made. Move on. Just like pulling up before the line, only with the wrong horse.July 27, 2021 at 21:36 #1552264Why bother to have an identity check at the end of race, when it is too late if there is a problem, if you don’t also have one before the race?
Is there one before the race at all? I guess it has to be, so why did they need a second one after the race? Probably because there wasn’t one prior to the race….. What’s the risk of a mix-up in general and how many times has this happened before?
July 27, 2021 at 21:42 #1552267July 27, 2021 at 23:33 #1552287Thanks for posting that article, Sam.
She ran a three year old horse rated 80 in a 2yo maiden…… Not bad….July 27, 2021 at 23:45 #1552288Bet the owners of these two horses are pretty mad about this mix up.
Both had excellent chances today.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 27, 2021 at 23:46 #1552289Thanks Sporting Sam. It sounds like there just needs to be an additional identity check much closer to the start of the race. Perhaps I’m overlooking some major complexity here but, if it’s just a case of scanning a microchip, surely this can’t be a difficult step to introduce?
July 28, 2021 at 00:11 #1552292I have a cat flap in my front door that scans for microchips and successfully stops all cats (or indeed any other creature that wishes to try its luck) except my own from entering the house.
It didn’t ought to be beyond the wit of a multimillion Euro industry to operate a similar microchip based entry policy at racecourses. Embarrassing.
July 28, 2021 at 00:42 #1552296That’s interesting to hear Richard88. Extending the concept into admittedly more expensive territory, it ought to be possible to link horse IDs up to starting stall scanners that could verify the right horse was in the right place.
July 28, 2021 at 00:47 #1552298Didn’t it finish 2nd, promoted to 1st?
