Came out 15pts in front, with Hurricane Fly, Quevega, Back In Focus, At Fishers Cross and Bobs Worth making up for major losses on my nap of the week, punted at all rates from 6-1 down ante post, Pont Alexandre, being a major disappointment. Sam Winner and Rolling Star were my other major losses.

Interestting to hear other’s experiences. The three that cost me the most were:

Zarkandar – strongly fancied this for Champion and had my max bet (still small!) to win and also put it in yankee, in which 2 other 3-1 or 7-2 shots won.

Barbatos – thought this would make first 5 in Coral Cup on the back of its novice run on New Years Day last year and had a good sized ew bet at 16-1. Finished 7th.

Rolling Star – Didn’t back it to win but wanted a single line in the placepot and the coin toss with Far West fell for this and I went out on first race. Would have had 4 lines otherwise.

Backing Holywell resulted in a very profitable festival. Odds of 25-1 made it a very good value EW bet but I had not expected such an impressive run.

A couple of the other winners I had were for me the stars of the show and could be clashing at the 2014 event, The New One and Our Conor.
Dessie Hughes seems very bullish about Our Conor for the Champion Hurdle, and he was very impressive. However the sectional times for The New One suggest Our Conor won’t be having things all his own way.

My worst ever. One winner: Champagne Fever, which at least soaked up some of the disaster.

I got a bee in my bonnet about River Maigue about a week before. Mistake.

    I too fancied Barbatos, mistake.

Bailly Green I backed to win.

Nadiya De la Vega: thought I was being clever. I wasn’t.

Thought I’d really cracked it with Urbain De Sivola. Wrong!

American Trilogy could be ready, he did me a favour at 20/1 here a few years ago … Nope!

Terminal’s got some good form. I’ll go each way: lose twice the money!

Picked out Cue Card as an obvious winner, then didn’t want the price so didn’t back it.

    Rule the World. Painful.

Champion Court, Junior, The Package …

Ah, now. SIR DES CHAMPS! Particularly after Henderson looked mournful about the going for b worth. This, like Synchronised, will right all the week’s wrongs.
    Wrong!

Enjoyed the week though, it’s the challenge and the sense of occasion. I had only a small voice in my head saying: ‘The whole jumps season is geared towards races with either odds-on winners or handicaps that Hercule Poirot could not solve. . . ‘
    Exaggeration, I know.
I usually have one good handicap payout. Had Oiseau de Nuit at 55/1 on betfair in the g annual in 2011. Still, it won’t put me off.
Have managed to recoup some through all-weather bets. Benzanno on Saturday for instance.

great racing , enjoyed it all , no bets whatsoever , tend to sit back and enjoy these meetings without any betting involvement

Thought CH 4 coverage was very average ,and all channels overdid the pathos for the poor stricken jockey , its for him my thoughts are at the moment , get well soon Sir
