I know that Tony Ennis can choose whether he wants to be known as Tony or Anthony but why would he suddenly do it now after years of being known as Tony?
It seems to be a bit suspect, especially with all the changes in TV coverage and presenting teams. Perhaps he thought plain Tony didn’t have the necessary class and prestige during all the recent jockeying for jobs and position.
Meanwhile, in other news, Yeats will be pleased to have seen, I hope, the fulsome praise in the Racing Post for race commentator John Hunt for his debut, I believe, commentating on football for Match of the Day. He has commentated on other football matches, of course.
He’s certainly being rewarded by the BBC for his loyalty in not switching to the main job on ITV racing. Good on them and him for that. Loyalty is a very rare quality these days. I still can’t stand him, though.
Also, in further unrelated news, sad to see The Times giving the heave-ho to racing reporting.
It’s just not right-on or relevant enough to the reading public now, it would seem.
January 11, 2019 at 10:02 #1392096Replays have been restored as of today

January 16, 2019 at 19:11 #1392693I’m preferring this reboot to the old ATR
January 16, 2019 at 23:28 #1392712Good to see the SSR digital clock has now been upgraded to include seconds.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
February 7, 2019 at 23:51 #1395705Don’t get your hopes up, but Virgin have just issued an updated Channel Guide.
Both Sky Sports Racing and Freesports are now listed as HD on their respective channels.

FreeSports wasn’t in HD a couple of days ago, but it is now.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
February 8, 2019 at 09:18 #1396855That would be funny wouldn’t it HD when there is no racing to watch.
Hey tune in channel 535 on Virgin for HD quality pictures of no racing…
@espmadrid you clearly didn’t notice that channel 536 says Racing UK HD not racing tv.February 15, 2019 at 18:40 #1397513I’m enjoying the new set up a lot more than expected, but without wanting to state the obvious, it badly needs more racing.
February 23, 2019 at 16:17 #1398927Lingfield 4.10 – Must have been the most extensive build up to a walkover in the history of British racing, what the hell are SSR playing at?
Two other meetings to cover and the 4.15 at Chepstow (a class 2 race) gets about 30 seconds of attention before the race – pathetic.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
November 28, 2019 at 21:00 #1476047Have the long deprived Virgin Media viewers at last got the channel in HD?
There was a marked improvement in picture quality from yesterday. I still can’t decide for sure though.
For those of you who record on tivo, you will know how fast you can whizz through on fast forward with HD recordings as opposed to the painful SD recordings. Well recordings of SSR are now as fast as all other HD recordings.
However, they don’t appear in the HD recording folder, suggesting they are not true HD.
Virgin have been moving lots of channels around lately and removing duplicate SD channels, so maybe that’s helped with the overall picture quality and annoying pixellation on some channels.
Either way, something has changed for the better since yesterday.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
December 7, 2019 at 19:08 #1476826@espmadrid no Virgin is not in HD it is a disgrace that we still have awful SD pictures that are worse than some internet streams, streaming Dubai Racing Channel is a better picture.
All Virgin say is they have continued with the original contract they had with ATR and that the feed is exactly same and won’t change until the contract comes up for renewal whenever that is.
June 12, 2020 at 00:07 #1490402At last, Virgin Media customers have finally received SSR in HD!
Just in time for Royal Ascot.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
June 16, 2020 at 12:11 #1490870The biggest decision of the day needs to be made soon: do I watch Ascot on ITV or SSR?
March 23, 2024 at 21:23 #1688154Finally gets round to showing a full screen recording with commentary of the Lincoln at 8.50pm after the split screen debacle this afternoon.
So many advert breaks on the channel these days – In a random sample of 1 hour there were 17 minutes of them.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
March 24, 2024 at 06:47 #1688164“In a random sample of 1 hour there were 17 minutes of them.”
That’s in breach of rule 1.2 of Ofcom’s rules on advertising:

March 24, 2024 at 07:22 #1688165This may include advertising of future programmes, which I presume does not count.
