US racing leaves me cold what with some horses screaming off in front like the hounds of hell are chasing them only to stagger drunkenly up the home straight with the jockeys beating seven bells out of them whilst other horses are dropped out so far off the pace they drop out of the back of the TV screen only to then run on too late to grab maybe 3rd or 4th – I even struggle to watch the turf races at the Breeders Cup due to the tight inside tracks and draw bias.
I am worried that this Ascot deal might signal the beginging of the end for racing staying on terrestial tv as Sky have access to stupid amounts of money to throw at the sport, look what they have done for the coverage of both Golf & Cricket.
I do have both ATR & RUK so I would be ok to see the racing but for me it should (and in fact needs) to be on terrestial tv.
September 20, 2018 at 13:11 #1375389According to a poster on Digital Spy Sky Sports Racing is testing its HD channel if anyone has Sky and wants to have a look.
At The Races HD’ is now testing via DSAT/Sky, tuning details are- 12.324 V, 29.500, 8/9, DVB-S2, QPSK and the SID is “3932”.
September 26, 2018 at 13:40 #1375791French racing is the new Irish?
Sky Sports Racing has signed an exclusive 3 year deal for rights to French racing and will show 10,000 live French throughbred and trotting races.
September 26, 2018 at 19:26 #1375818Isn’t that what ATR shows now when there’s no UK or Irish racing on?
Saying that… trotting…. who the heck wants to see that? They’d do better showing greyhound racing instead.
September 26, 2018 at 20:58 #1375826Ah trotting I recall the days I used to go trotting at Droyslden in Manchester. Those were the days
December 5, 2018 at 10:40 #1388058Press conference to launch the channel and the new studio will look like this

Looks like Mick Fitzgerald could be involved in Sky’s coverage unless they are just getting a look around.
Is that Alice Plunkett in the photo?
Have to say the set is very uninspiring if slightly dull.
December 5, 2018 at 10:50 #1388060Doubt they’d be there if they weren’t going to be involved steve.
Don’t think that’s Plunkett, could be Hayley Moore, along with Fitz, Weaver. Tylicki and David Ord.
Alex Hammond is supposed to be lead presenter.
December 5, 2018 at 11:14 #1388063The errr new team at Sky Sports Racing errrr I thought this was a brand new channel not just a new name?

Apparently Get In is continuing despite no Dundalk or Chelmsford on a Friday evening.
Alex Hammond will host a Monday evening racing show I see Chapman is there.
I suspect Harvey Weaver & Chapman will have to choose if Sky go up against itv for terrestrial rights.
Thank goodness Bob Cooper seems to be absent.
Jamie Lynch to leave Timeform and join Sky Sports as a regular.
Sorry Sky Sports but it’s just the same presenters as atr with a few additions this is not a new start it is just a new roll of wallpaper put over the old.
December 5, 2018 at 13:04 #1388075Nothing has changed, just the name of the station.
December 5, 2018 at 13:06 #1388076Sky Sport are planning to use drones….. oh God what could possibly go wrong there.
December 5, 2018 at 13:14 #1388077Jamie lynch leaving Timeform, how will the Halifax firm continue?
December 5, 2018 at 13:19 #1388078Apparently ATR is no going anywhere it has been announced ATR will be the digital partner of Sky Sports Racing which makes the rebrand even more pointless.
I assume this saves them money designing a new app or internet site.
Bad news for Cattermole haters
Mike Cattermole, Hayley Moore and Sean Boyce will also be a part of the new channel.
What changes will there be to the programming and schedule?
Our core daily schedule will remain the same with hourly news bulletins from 9am until the start of Raceday Live which will include a full preview of the day’s racing. So even the afternoon segment is going to be called eerrr Raceday Live.
December 5, 2018 at 13:28 #1388079Wasn’t expecting the line up to be any different than what we already had on ATR to be honest, so no real surprise there – hopefully Cooper doesn’t show up as listening to his drivel is painful and usually has me either muting the sound or turning off completely.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
December 5, 2018 at 13:28 #1388080200 french fixtures, maybe we should put out a call for steve caution to come back and post his views on here, regarding french racing
December 5, 2018 at 13:31 #1388081Hopefully goes on skygo, so i don’t have to bother with the £10 online subs!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 5, 2018 at 16:47 #1388099I sincerely hope racing doesn’t follow the same example of cricket and disappear from terrestrial TV. Sky may have more money but that doesn’t mean they can provide a better product.
December 5, 2018 at 18:18 #1388111Sorry to disappoint you – I was celebrating myself – but Bob Cooper is still there according to the blurb on the ATR site. Presumably, there was a diversity box for ‘bumbling fool’.
It is a very sorry line-up. I would have preferred some new faces rather than bunch of ‘has beens’ and ‘never will bes’. It doesn’t augur well that Hammond is the lead face.
I am hoping as a Virgin Media subscriber that it will at least remain a ‘free’ Channel.
